Starting at 5:05 watch (hear) Carmichael quad into the turn at the end of the straight. That's as rad as it gets.

A lot of us jumped it. Even Casey Lytle was jumping it on his YoT 125...

Hey David, yeah certainly. The sound and commitment of it is just cool to watch.

Your moto memory is insane.

Slower bikes = better racing.

Yep. That's why thunder valley always produces such good racing and battles. The altitude deflates the power the bikes make and thus more riders can push the bikes limits.

Looks cool, didn't seem to make much difference until a few laps later.

I clicked through a video that showed up on the "Up Next' column and look at visually how much faster riders were in 2002...

WoW thanks for posting that! w00t

I forgot how good the racing was back then on those 2-smokers--GOOD STUFF!

And Bailey and Art were so good together. smile

I did not see Carmichael jump it I did seey Lusk jump it?

Such good racing. Battles at every position and so many lines and rhythms voluntarily chosen by the riders

People always say slower bikes better racing and better racing in that era etc. But McGrath sure provided some yawners back in the day as did RC on his 125. A lot of yawners . There has been good and boring racing throughout the history of the sport.

#9 on a KX250 in 1999 would be Mr. Richard Carmichael

About 10 years ago I posted a pic from a National that had Cobra in it, and he remembered every single detail about the day and even the moto. Youre right, the guy has crazy good memory.

You sir just got added to the 2stroke Taliban's hit list.

How dare you get in the way of an agenda.

Yep, I was in attendance that night and remember watching Lytle jump that thing. The entire crowd was really into it every time he jumped it.

I bet he remembers this one well too. smile
This was a crazy race for some guys. DV kept it together.
Watch from about 29:00 - 125 main.

He won the 125 main in Seattle the following year too - he smoked them all.
Watch from about 1:00:40.
Jason McCormick was riding well.
Matiasevich was there on a 125.

I know which rider is Carmichael. I just missed it.

I can't find DV12 hitting it. Anyone know the point in the video?

|

I like that video for the reason that people today get all goo goo eyed over someone doing a quad. really it comes down to jump design and the factory 250's had a lot of power

Me and some friends spent the week before this race at Ezra Lusk’s track.
We drove down from Canada to ride. His dad was super nice, had Shane show us around. They pretty much laughed at us all week but it was awesome watching Ezra ride his SX track then win the opener.

|

The tracks were SOOO much better back then

That race was a really big deal from the stand point that the 97 CR250 was a disaster and then Honda didn't have any factory riders on 250's in 98' so their results were poor overall. When they went 1-4 at Anaheim it felt like Big Red was back.

Looking back, it's kind of funny that Honda didn't win a premier class title for 5 years until 02' and it felt like an eternity......now it's been 14 years. A whole generation of kids have grown up not understanding why Honda was even called Big Red.
