Curious to see how many forum members on vital have Moto-related careers as opposed to another industry.

Personally, while not in the extreme sports world, I am involved in the professional sports industry as business manager of a player in the NBA. I studied finance & Business Admin at Kansas Univ.

Due to my time spent in the pro. sports sector, I'm left to wonder why the Moto industry, at times, operates the way it does. It would be nice to see some business practices adapted from more mainstream sports.

Anyhow, not a bash on our beloved sport, but I am curious to see which members from the vital community may be employed in the Moto industry.

Union natural 'gas lines worker' for the biggest Utility company in Michigan. I have a Bachelors in Molecular Biology/ Organic Chemistry but this job presented itself and payed much more than the jobs my degree would have granted me. Im waiting for a management job to come my way, but at the ripe old age of 25 they have chosen other, more experienced candidates both times I've interviewed.

I am also curious to see what most of the regular do for a living around here...... Because looking at some of their garage/bike set-ups they got it goin' on.

Powersports & small engine mechanic. Started out in early '80's as a shop rat at the local dealer sweeping floors and assembling scooters, 3-wheelers and snowmobiles after school.

Went out to seek my fortune in the Alberta oil patch around '88 after my pro motocross career never happened. Got really bored running heavy equipment and driving trucks, so went back to wrenching in the late '90's.

work as an hvac system engineer as my day job, but I also rebuild blown up craigslist specials and sell them to coworkers and their kids to cover my moto related expenses. It also gets new people into the sport in an economical way.

Computer guy here. Work for a large publishing firm.

Not sure I would even want an industry job. Maybe if I was single I'd like to be the guy that setups the KTM Demo days.

Studied architecture after serving my initial 4 years in the army. After the economy crashed in 2008 and zero work was available i went back to active duty and am assigned to the nevada army national guard as a full time battalion operations officer for our training battalion. I am heading down in June to work with the ROTC program with UNLV... Looks like i will be getting in for free to the MEC and final SX rounds for the next 3 years Smile

Great to see you love your job. I worked in corporate world for a bit and while I was successful, I was not in love with it.

Now, I love what I do. The frequent travel can be taxing, however being able to manage the career of a close friend who is living out his dream offers me great fulfillment.

As a wise man once told me, more often than not you will have time OR money, not both.

I am a process operator in a chemical plant, my department makes specialty poly-ethylene based polymers. Shift work sucks but I make stupid money for a guy without a college education.

worked in the motorcycle industry for just shy of 20 years, first in the warehouse of a parts and accessory distributor, then as a sales rep for that company, then brought a shop with my brother and law, which we built into one of the biggest motocross shops in the country, then went to work for the kawasaki distributor for 2 years as sales/dealer support rep and ran the Kawi MX team here, then in the last 4 months ago I brought a timber joinery manufacturer and started out in a whole new industry,

Business owner, degree in Accounting and economics. Been around moto my whole life.

NASCAR,NBA,NFL and MLB have a strong foundation and structure and are billion dollar industries with profits in the 10's of millions, the business practice would do nothing for moto at this time.

In short, AMA needs to change first, structure it self to control both SX and MX and brand itself better.
