Been feeling a bit nostalgic here lately and have been combing the ol Craigslist looking for a good deal on an older carbed 450. I personally hate tuning carbs but have some weird desire now to get an old 450 and build it back up for fun. Possibly a Langston YZ450f tribute, as the Glen Helen race was my first exposure to Moto and I distinctly remember watching it and just gawking over the bike. Especially the White Bros carbon pro exhaust!! Or possibly an RM-Z 450 with some RC4 flair. Anyways, the prices people are asking for these clapped out beasts seems out of the park. I'm consistently seeing 04-07 models of every Japanese brand listed for $2,500+? Are people actually getting that for these bikes? Seems super high considering you can get a '13-'16 450 Fi, in most brands in the $3,500-$4k ball park depending upon condition. Ramble over. Gracias amigos.

It seems like $2500 in the bottom dollar for any bike.
I've seen a few dip down to $1800 even then they stay on the market for a while.

I picked my bike up a couple years its an 09 kx250f with low hours and some pro circuit goodies for 1000, but that was from a kid at work that just wanted some quick money for his new bike.

I guess that's a great thing when you're trying to sell them but terrible when you're trying to buy 😂😂

I had a 17 CRF and made the switch back to an 08.
Call me a hipster but I ride better and have way more fun on it. Plus with a bit of head work, a high compression piston and some 50/50 race gas the motor is very comparable to the new bikes.
I was even pulling some of those newer bikes on the hills of glen helen when I raced a few months ago, from the inside line... that’s torque.

Sarcasm or no? The price I am willing to pay is irrelevant ( not saying that in a smart tone). I can pay the price it just struck me as odd that the older 450's were calling that high of a premium.

Why have the newer fender? Keep it original I’d say

Just asking because I have an 08 CRF450 I might let go.

Not saying "might" in hopes of squeezing every dollar out of a potential buyer. I just get attached to bikes and have a hard time letting them go unless I know they are going to a good home.

Eh, they were cool at the time, but I like the most recent fender shape best. Plus those clamps are for the cone valves that came off a 13-16 model and the recent plastics bolt right up

Thank you for the input. Gives me a solid water mark. Nice bike.

Can definitely relate to that. I get attached as well and it's hard to let one go.

Bought a 2009 YZ450F with 5hours. Bought some goodies, just need wheels and Suspension to complete the build.
Thing is sweet! They’re out there, just gotta wait for the right one you want.

I'm close enough to you (Charlotte area) that if you dont find a YZ or RM we can talk about rehoming this CRF. She keeps making pouting faces at me when the 2 stroke gets to go play and shes left home.

Haha fair enough. Im a Suzuki guy so that's always my first choice but if that proves too difficult to find, I'll definitely consider the other Japanese offerings.
