The Shop
A buddy of mine has an old RS250 model and loves it for plonking around in the woods.....
I bought the RS 175 because it was a bit mellower than the KDX 175, which I thought would be too much bike for me at the time. After moving and not having any place to ride, I cleaned it up, put it in my vw van, drove it to my parents house, but a bow on it and gave it to my nephews for Christmas.
They ran the be-geebers outta the thing, then got quads.
They also used the colors in 79.
We ended up switching to Yamaha for 80 & 81.
Ran a YZ 50 punched out to a 65 I believe - we had to keep up with those ItalJet's on that dog of a minicycle.
Not sure if this was an 80 or an 81.But I'll guess 1980 was a dog stock.
Hey,Newmann you ever see many close to mint/good condition complete ItalJets from back in those days?
I always wanted one. Dad would never fork out the $$$ for one.
I think they came with a big fat #1 on the plates also.
That was Britt Woodrings bike when he first got it.
That's Britt in the Honda Jersey - they just had upgraded from a MR50 he was racing.
Always wanted one.
I see the different in what he was talking about with the graphics now.
The one I was standing by must have been a 1980.
How much is current fair market value on those these days - meaning what are folks paying for them?
Here is one of the ones like what I would love to have.
Except complete with manual ect...
I bought the 50 and the 60 about 10-12 years ago when the vintage thing was rolling pretty strong. Gave $1300.00 each plus freight for them because I wanted nice ones for a mini collection. The 50 wasn't as unrestored as the seller claimed, but still original and for the most part unmolested. Now I'm just a Mini Elsinore and Mugen addict, not much desire to keep the YZ's. Value still boils down to condition and what someone is willing to pay.
There was what, DS, TS, RS, and PE?
Pit Row
It may have had a 65 kit in it like mine.
Maybe it was the next year we got 60s.
Those little KS 50's were ugly but fast.
I can remember getting pulled up hills & beat on the starts by those little KS's on my RM50.
They were pretty light and uber fast.Once we got the YZ50 and put the 65 kit in it - I could dust them.
One of the Aussies that come on here used to race one ,if my memory serves me correct.
I remember him showing me pics one time,I think.
I think it was maybe surf shop Kong or MotoDude.... Cant remember who.
He was talking about as a kid going into the shop every day and sitting on one,I think before he got one.
DS was a four-stroke trail bike, TS a two stroke "enduro", (street-biased dual purpose), RS a two stroke trail bike and PE their off-road only two stroke enduro racing machine.
My two main riding buddies in the early 80's had RS's, a 175 and a 250. Together we cut our teeth on harescrambles racing- the old Wiseco 100-miler series that morphed into GNCC. Including the infamous Blackwater 100.
Good times.
