Some of the Euro fans who were at the MX GP say "no way the #222 was a 350; compared to the 250c the noise difference is too big; it's starts were better than most 450; out of the corners, on acceleration he wasn't loosing anything on Philippaerts' 450, etc."

Anyway, we won't ever know but for sure it is a great marketing for KTM's 350 which is definitely supposed to be a great bike for us Sunday riders.

On Moto verte, Yves Demaria says he wasn't on a 350. I don't know how if he knows for sure or if that was just speculation.

I believe right now it's just speculation, although all signs are pointing in that direction and opinions tend to go in the same direction in the pits.

On certain tracks the 350 would be a huge disadvantage.

What's Valkenswaard like?

Jim, you can check the race for free on Freecaster.tv Valkenswaard is a sandy, greasy, track. One where power rules.
I would agree that he would get less tired on the 350 and would make passes towards the end on that track, while guys are getting really tired. But TC pulled away at the start and was faster than the 450s from the beginning. Even when he made 2 mistakes and had to get back on track, he passed them all back. Wide open. Amazing riding skills too.

You only have to look at the bike to realise that it was indeed the 350 he was on.

I'm surprised at how many people are saying that having a lighter bike with a huge amount of power that's really usable is a disadvantage.

Glen Helen will be it's biggest test.

TC is one of those guys that can make any bike look good, but I am not sold on the idea that in the outdoors, at a pro level, 100 cc wouldn't be a factor.

Its is also rough and the riders needed to change lines a lot, 350 is better at that. Mind you his start on that 350 was amazing. Valkenswaard was not deep sand, so maybe the power wasn't needed as much as you think.....

Cairoli's reactions are amazing. I saw a few of his holeshots last year where he is a bike length ahead of everyone as soon as they come out of the gate.

How much work do they do on the track between motos? Herlings best lap in moto 2 was better than any MX1 guy in moto 1. Seems to me like Cairoli may go even faster on a 250 than he does on a 350. Last year with RC, Stewart, and RV absent from the MX races, Dungey and Pourcel turned better times than the 450's many times. That NEVER happened when Stewart and RC were battling on the big bikes, I don't care if they did have rougher tracks. I think it just comes down to the fact that only a few guys in the world can ride a 450 faster than these 250's. It was easier back when the small bikes were 125's, but these 4 stroke 250's are just too fast and handle too well. It would be nice to see Everts, RC, RV, and Stewart (and maybe even Townley) race 2 motos, one on 250's and one on 450's, see which lap times are faster. I honestly wouldn't doubt that these guys can all go faster on 250's.

In the age of factory 250F's that are rumored to make 50hp and most of the 450f's are detuned some, why don't people think you could make a 350 hang with a detuned 450(which most of them are)? KTM's have always been power houses stock, so if the motor is built to the max I don't see why it wouldn't make huge horse power, handle better and and be lighter! We'll all find out sooner or later...

I've heard the factory bike makes only 3hp less than their 450, combine that with less weight and smaller rotating parts, i'm not that surprised of AC taking the holeshot.

Who really cares, they don't claim to be riding a stock bike. If I'm not mistaken they can still race works bikes over there.

Peak power isn't the full picture though. I would think a 450 has a much wider power curve.

Just a thought here. Say the 350 makes 50 HP and a 450 makes 58HP (rough math and numbers here) How much power can you put to the ground? Maybe the tire can only get 48 HP to the ground before it cuts loose and spins. Perhaps the extra power of the 450 is just wasted in wheelspin and not being put to the ground while the 350 is putting it's power to the ground with only a few HP lost to wheelspin but it weighs less so accelerates faster. Just a thought.

I don't know if people here have seen the race but, Cairoli lines were different to other mx1 riders, he usually takes the outside line un turns

Saw the race just some minutes ago on TV. I mentioned to my father that Cairoli doesn't get pulled by Philippaerts going out of the corners. There were some tight, deep corners that he was just as fast accelerating out of os David.

I think Cairoli can hold the gas longer than 450 guys. Maybe the 350 suits his style better but for sure is fast, and I think it is a 350 of course

KTM holeshot podium! 350,350,450

That looks so cool !

This will sound a little weird but i love how in MX1 the red bull ktm team have 2 on all their number plates and in MX2 they all have number 1 on their number plates.
