I want to believe he’s being serious, I’d absolutely love to see him racing at Matterley. But part of me thinks he’s joking

with Febvre and Herlings out, what harm can do to stick the first 3 rounds in to see what happens?

With Febvre and herrings out early. An then if you think about it the gp season didn't end that long ago. He's still in good shape since he has been riding a little here and there and has more then enough time to prep sin e herrings was out a few weeks back. He might be able to get one of the ones that got away. A few things go differently last year and he was right there in it for the title.

I would love to! He is still extremely competitive and fit. Why not try the first 3 and see how it goes? 2 off the heavy hitters are already out.

My prediction is he is all in for the US nationals and this is good prep...

Cairoli at the Nationals would be a great draw. I'd go root for him. We old guys have to stick together!!!

(I am far older than he, of course.)

I hope he does do a few races... In the US for sure. As for MXGP, if TG243 gets off to a good start, it will be a tough title chase for everyone else...

Don’t do that. Don’t give me hope.

The "harm" would be that he does really well, sticks it out for the season, and we don't get to see him do any US nationals this summer.

There would be not better than seeing him win that 10th title. Tough pull but with 2 of the top guys out for awhile, it would be fun to watch.

The dude retired... He had a big press event for it and everything. Maybe I'm missing something but I see no reason why he would race again, in his own words he's happy with his career.

TC is a legit title contender therefore it makes sense for him to line up at Matterly.

How awesome would it be to see him bag a 10th Championship.

No.

He's still in shape ofcourse, but he didn't train last winter as how he would've done prepping for another season. He just rode a bike from time to time and spent some q-time with his family. I bet he's still fast, but he would lack the stamina and grit. Nothing he can't gain again ofcourse, but I don't see it happen.

But he always said he's not done racing and wants to race a couple of GPs and possibly nationals. Just not a whole season as a pro anymore

I would love to see Tony ride the first few rounds and see how it goes. The dream scenario for U.S. fans imo would be for Herlings to heal up, and race the nationals against a rejuvenated Tomac and Ferrandis! Probably not possible, but it would be awesome!

He misses it too much? He's only been retired for a few months. When legends retire they retire... RC, RV, Dungey, Everts, you didn't see all these guys coning out of retirement when they called it quits. Seems like nothing but wishful thinking to me.

Sometimes racers just want to race, press releases be damned.

It's the perfect situation. If it goes well - story of the year. If it doesn't - bail early and say it was just for fun.

I guess you're right. I mean, them's the rules.

Entries to an FIM Motocross World Championship/Cup event will be accepted for riders who:
a) Are in possession of the appropriate FIM Motocross World Championship/ Cup licence,
b) Are authorised by their FMN (only for riders who are not covered by the FIM Insurance Programme);
c) Have requested an entry before the closing date of the event.
d) Did not have a big press event and everything.
e) Are not happy with their career.

I heard that luongo lobbied the fim to get him an exception on d) and e) and to have the 222 available as it was retired too.

New theory: KTM will pay Cairoli to steal some points from Gajser while Herlings is gone.
That could work!
