CA 2 stroke ban

Is it true that if I bought a 22 YZ250 it would be illegal to ride on public land?

Yes. I saw a dealer listing for a 2022 TC 125 last week, and the dealer said the bike wasn't eligible for a state sticker. They said it could only be used on private tracks and private land.

Its not just 2 strokes.
What a shame. I sense little resistance from the riding community in CA. Maybe they are just ignorant of the new law, as was I.

Both D37 and D36 have been fighting it, but it’s fruitless. It’s pretty bad when the CA State Parks Director hates OHV’s and the CARB is pretty much allowed to do whatever they want.

All it’s gonna do is create more “outlaw” riding.

Or maybe been shot down so many times no matter who or what we vote on / for that the majority just plans on saying fuck you and doing whatever we want anyway. Kind of like the “Red sticker” bikes that have restrictions that everyone ignores

Crazy fact: get an older frame (it's the same frame) and you're good to go. Sounds stupid? OK. But, that's how it works. The Red/Green sticker stays with the VIN...

Another interesting approach: You can probably find...this upcoming winter...a "parts bike" that provides you this opportunity and some good spare parts.

It's funny...how STUPID the State 'Greenies" are about all this...

I had a direct conversation with the person responsible for the metrics or "the science" behind the Air Resources Board's report: he had NO INTENTION of showing the affect of these rules on the actual air quality of California. Why? Because, I'd pointed out the actual evaporation and "other" affects WERE NOT stated in any actual form. It was all "intent". This is about "evap-systems" and other shit they're claiming will improve the quality of the air.

Ultimately, they want the same rules as the Greenies want for the USFS/for all forest roads: they want the same compliance as a modern car...

You can’t even register ANY current red sticker model bikes after 2021.
Dealers are having a tough time selling the ‘22’s and all the ‘21’s that they got, are long gone. So lame !!
I never thought I’d say this, but I’m definitely headed out of California.

Idaho is being invaded with Californians moving there.
I don’t blame them for being mad, but they might have to accept me here shortly, but I’m on board with their “stance”, if you know what I mean ! It’s beautiful up there.
I’m counting days at this point !

I feel bad for You guys crying about transplanted Cali people. Almost like it is a planned attempt to infect the rest of the US. Jkn. I would think if they had the balls to move they feel the same way your state does.

I think it’s time we quit calling it the “United” States of America. The outside forces won, we are as divided a country as we have ever been. It was a good 245 year run.

😂 for real. We’ll see how this recall goes. I can’t see it being successful as Newsom has the backing of Hollywood, big tech, teacher unions etc. and not to mention millions of dollars.

Okay now back to dirtbikes.

What do you think the odds are that we may not be able to race a 22+ in district 37 big 6 in the future?

I believe there's an exemption for organized racing events.

It’s illegal to ride any ‘22 (2,4, or 6 stroke) on public lands in Cali.

Just pretend these laws are like COVID and ignore it.
Or every time you go riding say it’s a protest for Something like BLM and you’ll be all good.
I heard CA is getting that bad even the Mexicans are smuggling themselves back into Mexico.

Yes. Most of the 4 strokes do not meet California compliance. Unless the bike comes from the manufacturer with emission compliant systems, catalytic converters etc. It is not legal to ride on public trails.

Private tracks and closed course competition use only.

Don't need a cat. You need and evap system, EGR crap, no oil or other "evil fluids" venting...but...for now...no cat needed.

Ok. No cat for now. I thought I read they were going to mandate cats.

Next will be smog checks. Slippery slope we are on.
