2004 crf250 bought brand new one of the first ones the dealer had on the floor, man I hated it from the first ride on. I ended up not riding it at all and went back to the yz125. Thing felt like a tank and really slow. I never could get comfortable on it. Bought a 2006 yz250f a few years later and loved that one. I have also sold a couple bikes I wish I never have. Got rid of a 05 yz125 that was set up perfect for me, I think about that bike all the time.

03 yz450 after being on yz250s forever. I was getting my ass kicked every ride. I broke 2 Kickstarters and sold that pile pronto . Then I had a dialed 09 yz450 and traded it in on an 11 yz450 and that bike sucked . My buddy asked if I wanted to trade for his 11 Honda 450 and I laid rubber getting to his house . Haha

2016 ktm 350. I wanted to cry after the first few times I raced it. Turned out I just sucked and was use to the 450s torque. After getting new forks and learning how to twist that son a of bitch I loved it.
I felt the same way when I bought mine. Those first few rides had me saying WTF have I done! But a gearing change and setting the suspension up and I had it figured out.

I hated my 2000 RM 250. Motor was all mid range, blew up several times and got head shake something fierce. As soon as I could I sold it and got a 2001 CR 250.

Rode Honda’s for years, 03-06-08-09-12-13 crf450’s after the 13 I didn’t want air forks any more. Sold it and got a 15yz450 and then a 17 yz250.. got used to Yamaha’s...

FF to 2017 and the new crf450 that was supposed to be like the 08.. nope! Illest (not in a good way) handling bike I’ve ever ridden. My poor suspension guy had those fucking forks about 6 times. Realized the chassis was garbage. Kept it for 6 months.

Bought 2018 yz450f and back to awesome. Had it for a year now and haven’t had 1 issue.

I had a 2010 Husky CR125 which I loved, and after seeing Brian Garrison win the big GH 2stroke racr on a pretty stock WR300 I thought great, how bad can it be? I always wanted to have matching bikes. So off I go and buy a 2010 Husky WR300. I take all of the off-road stuff off, put on a set of SSS forks and a DEP MX exhaust, got it jetted crisp and ditched the enduro rubber for Pirelli MXMS’s. Well I give Brian Garrison a lot of credit for winning a MX race on that bike because it sucked as a MX bike! Lazy feeling chassis, did not corner well at all and the engine was way too slow revving to be any fun. It was great when I did some woods riding on it but that’s not what I bought it for. I sold it with about 9 hours on it.

The only other bike I really had buyers remorse with was a very low hour stock 06 CRF450. I brought it home, blasted it up and down the pasture a couple times and realized it was a mistake. I’d been riding small bores for the few years prior and I wqnted a 450 that would be easy to ride, like my 08 RMZ or 2011 TM were. This CRF was a rocket and I knew immediately it was not going to suit my riding style. I sold it immediately.

1981 Honda Pro link 125 and 250. Terrible motorcycles in every way. Was waiting for the new full floater suzukis, got impatient, and took two hondas instead-what an idiot.

Maybe their ill feelings toward the bike isn’t so much
because the 09 was shit, but because they were so in love with their 08....

Just a theory. I’m always genuinely curious as to why people are not fans of the 09. Always handled well and the power delivery, even still, is rideable and smooth.

Stock tune was garbage, injectors leaked if stored for long time, stink bug, rigid as can be, terrible clutch, just ok power, so so suspension. It was like Suzuki best then to the FI game and they just launched an unfinished untested bike.

Honda is held to a higher standard, it was a total 180 from the 05-08 and most that rode the last gen just didn’t get along with the 09. My 05 was better than my 09 in every single way.

What about not having EFI?
Would you ride a 05 now if you found a low our one like new?
Absolutly I would ride an 05-08. Love my 17 but ilI could ride an older one with no problems.

I bought a ktm380sx back in '00. Motor was good, suspension sucked. The motor was way too fast for the chassis. I had a '98 kx250 before that, and an '01 yz250 after. Almost killed myself going too fast on that 380.
I had one of those too. I remember getting a tankslapper that started flat in 4th gear, and didn't stop till I was through the tapes at the next corner and in the car park. It was like the chassis had a hinge in the middle and both ends were always fighting each other.
Awesome engine though; I did the Weston Beach Race on it, geared it for top end, and it was passing bikes on the 1-mile straight like they were going backwards.

If only KTM found a load at the back of the warehouse and put them in a modern steel chassis..

2016 ktm250sx. Bought on a whim so that i could have a two stroke in the stable. The bike was not that much fun to ride. I switched it up for a yz250 and got what i was looking for out of a two stroke.
Can you elaborate on the KTM vs YZ?

2014 500EXC. Once the honeymoon wore off it ended up being a waste of money. I thought a street legal "mx" bike would be cool, but everytime I went offroad on it I wished I was on my smoker. Everytime I had it on the road I wished I was on my street bike. There arent any trails around here to ride to from the road so it was essentially useless. To add salt to the wound, I had a hard time selling it because I put a lot of miles/hours on it for a dirtbike. I lost out big time. Rant over

I guess that’s what makes the world a big place
Still have my 2010. Loved the way it handled right out of the box, lowering link helped a little for my style. Raising the idle helped the flame out issues. Adding about 250cc extra oil to the clutch side greatly helped the clutch from fading, and stiffer front springs kept it from blowing through the stroke on hard hits. Rode my friends 2013 when they came out, absolutely hated it. Dont ride enough anymore to justify buying a new bike.

Due to my janky feet, I always have major buyers remorse for the first week and a half of owning new boots.

2005 CRF450! Just had to have it. Was coming off a YZ250. Pretty sure I paid over sticker price and probably would have paid even more..... Just wanted the bike period! The bike NEVER would start on first kick....... If you pull up to the track, weather was just right and things looked perfect...... Just wait until you tried cranking that valve eating machine..... Would spend a good portion of the day just trying get some life out it. Then by the time you put the wheels on the track you were pissed and spent. The head shake on a fast down hill was something you could appreciate. Just knowing you kept you food down or didn't blackout.. Once it got hot, forget it! Had to trade the piece in. In another state.... Didn't want to look someone in the eyes and know what they are getting themselves into trying to sale that pig local. But was a great cardo and leg (right leg) workout.

2004 YZ250F. I could never gel with that bike, even after a full season of riding it. It took at least 10 kicks to start when cold and 100 kicks when hot, stalled at a moment's notice, and I could never gauge how fast to hit jumps on it. It took me nearly two hours to change the oil the first time (3 drain locations and two oil filters!!!) POS.

Ex Wife.

I've never bought a 4 stroke dirt bike, so I can't relate on the moto side.

05’ kx250 never could ride it. Plus weird stuff would break.
Really? Like what? Never had any issues with ours other than the horrible forks.

2015 Wr450f.

Bought as a left over in 2017 when I got back into riding. Bike had the gytr pipe, throttle stop and new Ecu.

Heavy pig, too much power in tight woods and didn’t want to start occasionally.

Sold it for a $2000 loss and was able to get a used 17 yz250f for a couple hundred more with almost zero hours.

Huge upgrade and found comfort again riding but sold that after most of a season and jumped on my Beta. Absolutely great bike and happy with what I’m on currently.
