I had buyers remorse last year when I bought my new truck super bad, still do honestly. Like this sudden onset of what the fook have I done. Not so much with mountain and dirtbikes though. Those types of purchases always seem more satisfying in the long run.

When I was a 6’2” 130lb freshman in high school, I finally talked my parents into getting me a dirt bike. The 1987 YZ250 was a bad choice for a first bike. I guess I cemented the deal when I looped it out and launched it into the seller’s bushes when she let me test ride it in front of her house.

I'm in that group ( opposite of Moscrop ). The 09' was a completely different chassis then the 05' - 08' and I thought the motor was a complete turd compared to my 08'. I swear to god , besides the 97' , I almost hated the 09' more. Now the 2012 CRF450??.......I loved that bike.
Just Curious because i have never ridden either
What is the difference between a 2009 and 2012 CRF450?

I did, initially, when I went switch from my '15 yz250f to a '17 350sxf...the powerband was nothing like I was expecting and I absolutely despised the suspension.

But, once I switched the suspension over to KYB, and made a few minor changes to get the power where I wanted it, I was completely sold. Freakin' love the thing now.

I just bought my son a 2018, KTM 250SX and he hates it. He came off of a 2017, 125SX which he loved and 2016, 250F that he kinda liked. He is a big kid (200 lbs. plus) so we had to move up in bike. Just bought him a 2018, 450CRF and he really likes it so, now the 2018 KTM 250SX has to go. The 250SX is the only bike I ever bought without letting him ride one first, BIG mistake!!!!

First year of the YZ426 coming off a very fast and we'll suspended CR250. And 2nd would be the 2012 KTM350 after taking 2 years off. Rode it for 3 months after putting $2k into hopping it up. Lost my ass on that one. Traded it in for a RMZ 450 at the time.

"79 CR125 with the 23" front wheel and slow motor was a big disappointment. Traded a 79 CR250 for the 125 which made it a even bigger mistake. Just a Honda lover at the time. Raced it two years in A class. Crazy.

2016 ktm 350. I wanted to cry after the first few times I raced it. Turned out I just sucked and was use to the 450s torque. After getting new forks and learning how to twist that son a of bitch I loved it.

Most every bike I've bought I've gone back and looked through MXA to see what they said about it.......I've never been surprised or had any remorse. I've found that what they say and what I feel in a bike is pretty much the same......been doing this since 1980. I've never found them to be wrong on their opinions.....maybe nit picky..but not wrong.

If they say a bike won't turn.....it usually won't turn well......I've never known them to call a bike slow and have it be a rocket when I got one...at least I know what I'm getting.....

1994 YZ125 & 2000 RM250, neither lasted a month. Hated my '88 KX80s too but was stuck with them for the year with Team Green.

2004 RMZ250. I actually loved the bike, even while it burned the living crap out of the inside of my legs. Loved it right up until it ate the 3rd cylinder head in 3 months. Thing sat for 5 years until I rebuilt it and made sure to off it to someone i would never see again!!!

My ‘17 KX450, that was until I slapped some a kit on there. Amazing bike now. Now it’s a toss up between my YZ250 smoker or the KX.

Yeah. It has EFI. I was able to get the 2009 working however stock the front and back fought each other and handling was off and it had some bugs. My regret wasn’t getting the 2009 as much as letting the 2008 go. I loved that bike. It did everything right and was a good fit. You gotta recognize that in a bike. It’s invaluable.

Well that actually brings up and interesting thought...I wonder how many people in the “09 hate group” came from on 08 CRF450?

Maybe their ill feelings toward the bike isn’t so much
because the 09 was shit, but because they were so in love with their 08....

Just a theory. I’m always genuinely curious as to why people are not fans of the 09. Always handled well and the power delivery, even still, is rideable and smooth.

Buy something that maybe you never rode or thought you might like and we’re totally bummed once you got out on it?

Switch brands and it bit you in the ass?

Not speaking about buying something and having mechanical issues, just something you didn’t gel with.
Yep, 2 bikes, 2016 KTM SX150 (4CS, shall I say more) and 2019 YZ250F, which obviously many will second guess that one, but that bike and me just didnt get along despite its many accolades.

What a mistake... not sure how so many people wear those boots. It’s like having a straight jacket on your feet ! Gearne SG12’s for life !! Wink
Haha I had the exact opposite experience. Tech 10’s since 2009. Got a pair of sg12’s two years ago, tried to like them. I could feel the pegs on my feet, to much sole flex for me. Not very confidence inspiring. Went Back to tech 10’s.

Haha I forgot about my 88 KX 80 Big Wheel. I raced that bike TWICE and the frame cracked in multiple places! I wasn't particularly large or fast for that machine BTW. Glad my dad could weld, we fixed it and moved it on pretty quickly!

Stock tune was garbage, injectors leaked if stored for long time, stink bug, rigid as can be, terrible clutch, just ok power, so so suspension. It was like Suzuki best then to the FI game and they just launched an unfinished untested bike.

Honda is held to a higher standard, it was a total 180 from the 05-08 and most that rode the last gen just didn’t get along with the 09. My 05 was better than my 09 in every single way.

2016 ktm250sx. Bought on a whim so that i could have a two stroke in the stable. The bike was not that much fun to ride. I switched it up for a yz250 and got what i was looking for out of a two stroke.
2/24/2019 6:24pm
Go answer the question, my 2018 TC 250. Nothing wrong with the bike as many love them but it taught me I am out of shape for a 2 stroke and I just prefer a 4 stroke. Got back on a Honda 450 and I just gel with it almost perfectly.

Also, tech 7 are garbage compared to
Sg12. Only made it a few months with those boots before going back to g’s on my feet.

It’s a strong possibility, I know it was that with me. I couldn’t find another 2008 so I bought a 2009 yz450 and rode that and the Honda for awhile. Eventually sold the Honda. But not before taking it to Washougal and getting my best finish ever at the Oregon Old Timers National!

Thought I’d toss that out there.

What about not having EFI?
Would you ride a 05 now if you found a low our one like new?

Always crazy with ones like this... you read the list of changes between those models and it's not huge. Setup and details. Like the change in perception between the 18 and 19 YZF450. Fork lugs? Wtf!

2006 kx250 two stroke. I tried everything to get myself and that bike working together but never could. I spent more time picking that one bike up off the ground than I have all my other bikes put together.

I'm in the minority & preferred the 09 model over the 08. Once the suspension is sorted out on the 09-12's they are a lighter feeling bike with good turning characteristics in comparison to the 05-08's.

Sounds really familiar... I bought my cruiser in 14 as well. Traffic was horrible because cars don't really look for you on a bike, but my final straw was when a damn dog jumped out of a ditch to chase me. I was only running about 40, but saw God himself when we almost went for an asphalt slide. Turned around and rode straight home, parked it. Sold the next day....

2003 CRF450R, hated from the first ride, it ended up sitting in the garage collecting dust.
I'm glad I didn't sell my KX, when it was time to go riding I loaded up the old 2 smoker.
I still have the KX250 but the CRF is long gone, apparently I'm a 2 stroke guy.
