Has anyone busted one of these before? What is the cause? Mine sheared off today where it goes into the bottom clevis, on a 2010 Husky CR144 w about 15 hours on it total..

No fat jokes please you mofos.

You're admitting you're fat, and you ride a husky. Hate to say it, but those are probable cause for your failure.

Huskies are good fat guy bikes, most people don't have a point of reference as to why you're riding so shitty.

Is that an Ohlins or Sachs shock?
It's a Sachs. I'd like to use this as an excuse to get a Ohlins TTX but they don't make one for this bike, it has the horizontal reservoir like the Yammie 450. The Sachs is actually a really good shock and I've had them all including the TTX.

I have broke one on a kx250. The bike was about 4 months old. I ran a lot of sag and don't know really how it broke. They said it was too much sag but it was at like 114. I know that is too much but that's where I liked it on that bike... which i hated lol.... I doubt that helps you but maybe its true?

Possibly sag related, that would make sense. My spring was a little too light so I was running about 105mm with 0 static. I've done this plenty in the past and never had a failure though.

Broke mine at loretta's this year. Rode the entire moto with it springing all around. The entire shock had to be rebuilt.

Don't forget to add in that you're tall, Cam. An inch taller than me, and likely no featherweight either. When you are hammerin' on that bike and hangin' off the back end, that's a LOT of leverage on that suspension. Combine that with shitty mfg processes and it's a recipe for failure. Lucky you didn't get killed when that fuckin' p.o.s. broke on you. Thinking about going back to Japanese yet? Lol.

No I'm not going to switch brands, I'm surprised I haven't broken this thing in half yet with some of the stuff I've done to it this year. Before I installed my big bore kit I came up short on a peaky 80' double repeatedly until I bent my subframe and thought I broke both my ankles. I'm just glad it was the shock shaft, when I looked down I was half expecting to see the linkage torn out of the frame or something. The bike definitely takes a licking and keeps on ticking.

Lol. Don't give up easy, do you? 80' ft and multiple attempts. You have a way bigger pair then me. Never thought about it 'til after I posted. You must not be too heavy if you're riding a tiddler, even with a big-bore kit on it. Or you're insane. Shit I'm 6'6" and DOWN to 250 lbs. now.

I'm 6'7 and down to 310lbs now, I used to be in pretty good shape at 275. I'd love to be 230 but I don't think my frame would ever allow it healthily. A lot of people think a 125 won't cut it for people 200+ but they'd be wrong. I'm no great rider but I can keep it on the pipe and turn faster laps on it than I can on my 300.

I'm not sure, haven't been able to weigh it. I'm guessing its in the 200-205lb range.

You could get down to 230. I'm 6'-6" and wear 205lb pretty easily.

I've seen a shock shaft break from pressure cleaning up into it and not spraying any water dispersant = corrosion.

Obviously not in your case, just thought i'd keep the post count ticking Smile

I can see that. That is one of the fun things about a 2 stroke in general is that you sometimes go just a little faster than you would logically go while keeping it on the pipe. I miss running the piss out of a 125. I'm really thinking about getting one.

Yes I broke a shock shaft just like you are describing.......ironically it was also on a Husqvarna ..... 1985 500CR

The Husky had a really bad linkage seal design and the bearings had dried out and was binding....putting a side load on the shaft.
