Debating on moving from Dunlop to something new. Buddy rides a cr250 and swears by the battle Ross, but majority goes for Michelin. I ride trails, tracks, and occasionally ramps. Thoughts?

I love my starcross 5 medium rear tire. Ridden it in sand, hard pack, and medium terrain. It does seem to cut up easier than the mh3 (last gen tire) when riding terrain with rocks. Hooks up well in sand, and doesn't seem to deflect as easy on hard pack. It is noticeably more pliable than the mh3 I used to run. I like it more than the Dunlop mx32. Crf450, vet b rider. Track only.

We moved away from Dunlop a year or so ago and really like the X30 front/X40 rear combo. Less expensive, easier to install and last almost twice as long as the Dunlops.

I have used both the X30 and Starcross 5 mediums and prefer the Michelins. I will try the x40 at some point probably but the Michelins are the best I have ran for mixed riding and longevity. I am running a Starcross 5 soft up front right now and love it so far. I can't say anything about wear yet though but have heard it wears just as well as the medium up front.

Also if you do choose the Starcross make sure and run higher pressure than normal. I run 14 psi in mine but know people who go even higher.

I ride the same stuff as you and run the Pirelli xtra x, I know it's not one of you options but it's a sweet tire

Just ran x30 yesterday at milestone. I was always a 404 guy. Damn that x30 was a really good tire.

same scenarios as a few above me, rode the Dunlops for years and years and have since switched to the starcrosses. much more durability, less $, and works great in a wider variety of conditions, all around better tire

I currently have a pirelli mx32 front tire on my bike and it is ok at best. Thinking of the dunlop mx3s or the bridgestone balttlecross x30 for the front. Mostly ride on hard to mid terrain and mx tracks only. What are some of the real world opinions on these two tires for the front?

Battlecross x30s for me. Last long and are a great replacement to the 403/404.

+1

That is my current 2nd favorite tire. Lasts forever and is solid all around.

I'm slowly getting around to trying all of the new gen tyres, So far I've only tried the new Dunlop MX32's and the new Starcross 5 mediums.

I reckon the new michies have got it all over the Dunlops. Heaps better front tyre grip and better wear on the rear.

Battle cross X40 rear is a good tire. X30 is pretty good also, but I've found the 40 to be the best rear in the battle cross series.
The battle cross fronts are average, with the X20 probably being the best. The X30 front reminded me of the Dunlop mx52, and I don't like that tire.
Of all these, I find the Michelin Starcross 5 mediums to be best. Front and rear are both good tires.

I have an x40 on the rear of my 450, and love it. Ride mostly trails and it is holding up great. Will buy again.
I just put an X30 on the front, but have not been out for a ride with it yet.

You will really like the X40 out here in AZ. It holds up better in the desert and still hooks up on tracks nicely. I'm on my second rear X40. Love it. I too switched from a Dunlop rear to the X40. Glad I made the switch.

I just hate riding from my truck on the street down to spots, it burns them up like crazy not even pinning it or doing stupid shit. Also the dunlop are just so expensive so it's a toss up at this point. Ill probably start with michelins then check out the battle cross, buying a yz 250 soon so ill just run one of each on both

I've tried all the major brands of tires, I just don't think you'll beat the performance of the Starcross 5s. My biggest issue with them is that they wear out really fast. I ride about once a week on average at a slow C pace, after buying the tires around October the rear needs replacing already as knobbies are already shearing off. I usually replace tires twice a year, so it doesn't bother me that much anyway.
