That was my friend and coworker, who missed the brakes and plowed the beast from the east, He was cool about it though. My buddy sent an email to Steve and asked if he could get Damon to sign his carbon Yosh that got smashed in the incident, hung that trophy in his office for a good while. Damon wrote "Sorry!" on the pipe along with his signature.
The Shop
I had also a big poster of him in my bedroom.
He'll earn my respect when he solves world hunger. 10th place, max.
Pit Row
Amazing the different paths some riders take. On that same night in 1989, McGrath scored an 8th place finish in 125SX at 17 yrs. young. And would put another 3 seasons on the 125 before his history making 1993 rookie 250 season.
Bradshaw was good for the sport. When Bradshaw was on the track, you watched. Looking at his metoric rise, wonder if RJ’s wrist injury in ‘89 could have influenced (even a little bit) Bradshaw’s move up to 250’s in ‘90.
Lets not forget The Dogger at 16 also winning a 250 Supercross in Florida.
That was some funky dirt. A limestone sand mix that came in wet.
When riders cased jumps it looked like they were landing on a big block of foam.
Bradshaw was definitely on it that night. He had swagger, and could back it up.
At atlanta '91, (maybe '92) they went down the gate and interviewed top riders before the main and when they got to damon, he said "my name is damon bradshaw, and I am here to kick ass tonight".
Then he went out and did.
