The two stroke power chewed up the Unadilla track making almost every section fascinating to watch, the track was never groomed and was amazing watching 10 different approaches to one section. Today 4 strokes are incredibly high speed fast and the linear power just leaves long ruts, not as interesting IMO, Great photos

However if the idiotic, carnival like jumps were removed, and if they would just plant grass and leave the dozers parked at the end of the day's racing like they did in the old days- it would be an improvement.
The natural terrain rough track design exposed mistakes, required a thoughtful line selection strategy, demanded fitness, and provided an exciting enough platform for plenty of excellent racing- without resorting to cartoon like, childish buffoonery.
Exactly! Motocross is supposed to on natural terrain. If the riders of today could experience it back in the 70's and 80's they would understand why it was better.

Yeah let’s go back to racing in a time where the best guys were racing out of vans! Wtf man. You old bastards need to let it go. We are watching the best era of mx sx. Sit back have a beer and enjoy it. Oh and get off my lawn.

Best era of MX/SX was late 70s early 80s we know we were there and are still here now. The money in the sport and professionalism with the factory rigs and set ups is pretty cool but the racing is not even close. You young punks need to realize you missed the golden age of MX when you could make a fake pit pass and hang out with the riders and teams and get right next to the track during a race, the list goes on. And turn off that video game and get a job !! WinkWink
And pull your pants up! ?

I’ll put it out there. If the tracks in the 80’s were like they are now, the 500 2 stroke may have survived. They just had too much power for the gnarly low traction hard pack or grassy tracks of the time. Watch a vid of Carlsbad USGP for an example.
Today’s freeways would have been perfect. In fact they are, I’ve tried it.

Those those vented pants?
Only if you race with the zipper down.
Those leathers could get warm but they could also block the frigid air on cold days.
