Someone will say it’s only a pig in Supercross now. It’s been proven plenty of times outdoors. That bike looks great. The difference between Dylan and Barcia at the end was incredible, the Yamaha was very stable and Barcia was being bucked around all over.

Maybe it was the weight of the blue pig that gave it the extra speed downhill. Tongue

It has only ever been criticized for supercross. Outdoors that bikes really fuckin good. In the gp's has been a winning bike since 2013 damn near a decade. I've never been surprised by a yz450 up front at a national.

There was plenty of criticism outdoors from 2017 to last year

I don't know about that. Barcia had a lot of really good days on it outside.

Star turned that bike around, management at Yamaha needs to investigated.

The steel frames seem to having trouble outdoors this year. Have there been suspension changes with the Austrian warehouse?

I don't know about that. Barcia had a lot of really good days on it outside.
But in the first TWO RACES outdoors, Star has already exceeded both the number of podiums and wins factory Yamaha (and Barcia) had put together in the prior TWO SEASONS.

Plessinger, Ferrandis, and Craig were all moving up in positions, with Ferrandis charging like a boss. The KTMs of Musquin and Webb dropped anchor. The contrast has been significant between the two. Denying the improvement in the Yamaha under Star is nothing short of butt hurt or something.

Sadly AP7 will be on the Orange Pig next year. Kinda feel bad for him. STAR will be in a fight for all 5 titles next year. KTM....maybe 1.

I know. From a bike perspective, he has to be second guessing his decision. From a compensation perspective, I doubt he will. The bright side is team KTM will do anything to make the bike better for him unlike the old Factory Yamaha used to be like. He'll be fine and glad to see him get paid really well.

What we are witnessing on the YZ is finally there is a culmination of fit, elite-talented riders, on a good base model machine that is getting the necessary mods needed to put the bike consistently on the podium competing for a championship. 'Bout time.

It really does make Factory Yamaha look like they didn't know what they were doing.

What exactly is star doing to make these bikes so much better? I would actually consider buying one now. From 2009 till recently I wouldn’t even think about it.

Anything and everything they can. As far as the interviews I’ve seen and information I gather is that Star was able to drop 8lbs off of the bike. They are messing with engine hangers and making sure the bike works well for the rider. Plessinger said the Factory Yamaha didn’t work well with the forks and shock. They didn’t compliment each other and the bike was very rigid with bad front end feel.

Now, apparently the bike is nimble and goes anywhere they want it to go. Power plant wise, Yamaha never lacks in the pony department. Just tailoring it to the riders needs.

That’s what I’ve gathered personally.

Hopefully he keeps getting better. I would think his fitness will improve at Aldons maybe??? But he left the NEW Team(Same guys he won several championships and has huge 450 improvements with) not the old Factory Team. Hope he does well...love his podium interviews!

Any 450 YZ model '18 and newer is a fantastic bike for any weekend warrior or amateur racer. The newer, the better. Good luck finding one and not getting rapped.

There WAS a big part of the problem, too much hit even with adjustable maps. No one wants a revvy 450 and their bore and stroke is on the wrong side of the equation. That bitch needs to be tamed down.

You'd be surprised at what you can do with the map switch, I use my 450 on tight single track and with the right map It's easier to ride than my old 250F.

Good days a season does not make. Under Factory Yamaha, the bike flat wasn't working most days and reading between the lines, Yamaha didn't want to try to make it work.

Glad to see they turned it over to a competent race team and Blue is running up front again. I'm not particularly surprised by Ferrandis, but Plessinger is the one telling the story more IMO. Ferrandis had that tenacity in his 250 days and didn't have to ride the Factory bike before Star took it over.

I like both of these guys and would like to see either one of them take this championship.

I don’t think he should either. He has the opportunity to ride them all and they are all good bikes. He’s lucky and I’m jealous
