So I have a 2013 yz 125. I wire wheeled the paint off the stock pipe to get it to look more like a works pipe. I take good care of my bike and I am not just some kid who rides his bike and doesn't do any maintenance. Well my bike is sounding like it needs to be packed. Has the loud "pop" to it. But I just re packed the silencer last night and went to the race today and now it sometimes will still have that loud "pop" noise and sometimes it sounds good like it used to. My dad thinks it may be the little rubber gasket that hold the silencer to the pipe tight because my silencer does have a little play in it but nothing major. But I am worried that when I wire wheeled it that I thinned the metal out or something and ruined my pipe. Anybody had or heard of anything like this happening?

Stripping the paint off did not make it louder. I would suggest inspecting the seal from the cylinder head to the pipe.

Didn't think of that. I'll look there but it just sounds like it's coming from the silencer. Could a silencer maybe have a hairline crack in it or something?

There's a bit of an art to silencer repacking. You sure you got it right? I mean, it's not rocket science, but you gotta get it packed tight, but not too tight. Clear as mud right?

Before you repacked it, it was ok, right? If so, that's what I'd be checking. But certainly do get your crush gasket changed, and your midpipe joint seal changed.

Hey, I got a 13 bro! Come to think of it, I do torque my sprocket bolts on the regular.

It could be bad reeds or pipe o-ring, but very likely the sprocket bolts.
Sounds like they are unevenly torqued between 8 and 16 lbs.

Your exhaust bearing might be worn out, I'd check that.

Did you use RTV to seal the silencer?

No shit, the first few times I did my silencers, I didnt know to use it, and they would blow out and be super loud in the matter of a couple rides.

Muffler bearing or muffler bearing seal. Might have compromised one of those things when you wire-wheeled the pipe. I used to wire-wheel my aluminum perimeter frames until I realized it was causing my EFI to run too lean.

Sprocket bolts.... hilarious.
There is nothing funny about not properly torquing sprocket bolts bro.

You guys are just dumb. It's the Fetzer Valve, it's usually always the Fetzer Valve, sometimes.
