For me it was Davi Milsaps and Weston Peick. Both on non factory bikes...

Milsaps wasn't that big of a surprise, as last year he did well. I think both Stewart's and Reed's lack of consistent, competitive presence kinda shocked me. Maybe it's 'out with the old, in with the new', although I'm hoping there's still some fuel left in both of their proverbial tanks.

Ronnie Mac not making a single podium this year was equally disappointing.

Gotta give props to Bam Bam. The kid shows some crazy aggression on the 450. Good for the sport.

All the expected front runners struggling(except Millsaps) at the beginning of the season was kind of surprising. It's like everyone was out having drinks on Friday and then someone mentioned SX and they were like "OH SHIT! That's tomorrow?!"

Tomac not winning. I thought he was going to had KRoc handled. Even after KRoc gave Tomac that race back, I thought Tomac would see through to it that he was going to take it. Great 250 championships though. Both coasts.

Tomac going from "He is going to run the table" to not defending his title. When he is on, he looks as good as anyone Ive seen. Not knocking the kid, I just thought he had this one in the bag early in the season.

Milsaps beat Dungey by a point. Never ever thought that would happen....

Davi.
I doubt anyone had him in their top-5 preseason picks. I know I didn't.

X2. This kid is dicing with the best all the time in the 250 class. Pro Circuit, Geico, KTM or any of the factories should look at him as a contender next year. In the big bikes. Millsaps and team made the Suzuki look awesome. Led the series for 9 rounds. I hope his rehab goes good for him this summer. Kudos to Georke, he is the Canadian Champ, and he belongs with the best. Top 10 rider in Supercross, and can earn a decent living riding motorcycles. DryDryCool

Millsaps for sure! Great turn a round!
Peick and Goerke close tough!

Also never expected Vriese to pull a fourth 250SX East, and a 20th total in the 450's! Pretty solid season.

The wheelie Partridge did in the whoops earlier in the year was the baddest 1.5 seconds of 2013.

Bell racing the LCQ and making the main event in Dallas has to be one of the biggest one race surprises. . . That kid can take a lickin and keep getting back up. I wish he would quit hitting the ground.

according to 2012 millsaps may not have been a surprise , but every one was going on and on about the big five before the gate dropped at A1 and davi's name didnt come up much AT all , not that he's not a great Rider but he definetly got back on track this year , and i think he for sure was the biggest surprise !!

Weimer. Even though he fought coming back after injury...seemed he just totally lost the drive he had and became just another "one of those guys" floundering to stay in the top ten. Admittedly at Vegas, he hit the booster rockets...but, he'd better be glad he's still got a year on his contract. I doubt Kawasaki it all that excited.

... RV not winning more than 10 was pretty surprising to me by the end of the year. he was a dominant force for sure.
and for the clowns that say he isn't consistent... he had 10 wins, 14 podiums, and 16 top 10's... (disclaimer : this is a stat i watched on the broadcast, i didn't feel like back-checking it)

Stewart's injury
Davi's new-found speed and ability to be at the front
Reed's lack of speed/finishes
Dungey did about what i thought, rode great some rounds and ok some rounds, couple great wins
Barcia not finishing at the front 3 more was a shock to me, he's the real deal

Honestly with how hyped everyone was I was surprised by RV's dominance but mainly the way he was riding. The 2nd half there were times when he was riding the bike at what seemed was the absolute limit for that 450.

Also surprised to see Stewart and Reed struggle so much, especially Reed. Stewart was surprising simply because nothing had changed even after the whole Yamaha to Suzuki move, but Reed was never a factor for the win, not even once. Just shows you how much everyone else has stepped it up.

Pro Circuit having their worst year in recent history was kind of a surprise. They won 2 races this year and one of them was won by an AX guy!

Tomac's implosion was pretty surprising.

Also Hahn was a great surprise. I haven't seen him ride with that aggression in years.

#1 Biggest surprise would have to go to Millsaps...he started strong and finished strong...well deserved 2nd place he fought harder than Dungey and he got 2nd....Dungey only had a few off nights and none of them would fall under the "disaster" category....Dungey needs to win more races- winning 2 isnt going to cut it...

#2 Stewart/Reed - Stewart on the Suzuki this year had some good moments and he looked very smooth most the time and I liked seeing a smarter more patient James Stewart.. he didnt take nearly as many tumbles during the races this year as he did on the Yamaha of years past...Reed, Im not a fan really but he was not comptetive all season other than just a few laps and coming out hot in practice.....Stewart had a win and at least a few podiums and even lead more than Dungey i believe......hopefully these dudes turn things around outdoors or RV is going on a terror!!
