200lbs. in a 6' frame is not big.

300lbs in a 6' frame is big.

Shred that 125.

With all due respect, the guys who are posting saying the OP will be fine, I'd like to see pictures or video of the type of tracks you're riding and the jumps you're doing.

SoCal tracks are jumpy and I really believe they're built and designed with 4 strokes in mind.
To your point I think most tracks are designed with a four stroke in mind, and the "brand name" tracks in So Cal look like you need to be a top notch rider to jump everything on a 125. However the Vet tracks and REM look like you can jump everything on unicycle.

I just don't think he should be that worried. Have fun, jump what you can, and go home in one piece. When I was 22 I felt like a failure if I didn't hit everything the first 3 laps on the track, now I just want to go home alive.

This is a good point! Ride what ever puts the biggest smile on your face, unless you're like me and base your entire self worth on what you jumped at the track today LaughingLaughing

6’3”, 225 on my cr 125 ( now a 144 ). No problem, but I would suggest going stiffer on fork/shock springs.

Hey guys, I'm looking to get back into moto here in a few months after 6 years off... I was really hoping I could get a used YZ125 for the return. Two strokes really have my interest right now. The only problem is I'm worried about it being too small for me seeing as I'm 6' 200 lbs. 6 years ago I was riding a bone stock '11 KX250f with no issues getting me where I wanted at about 10lbs less. I like to ride pretty hard and thought the 125 would be great to get the groove back. I road raced for many years (while also riding moto since I was 4) so railing corners is my favorite part. And at the used price if I felt I wanted more after a few months I could sell it for what I bought it for. But I also don't want to waste my time. So my question is do you think I would be fine with the 125? Or do you think I'd be able to ride a YZ250 with the same intensity? Orrr should I just stick to the 250fs? I gotta make it to work on Mondays so I don't really feel comfortable with hopping on the 450 just yet. Any input would be greatly appreciated! Also my home tracks would be Milestone and Perris if that has any effect on your input, seeing as Milestone is considered a "sand track" and Perris being pretty tight from what I remember.

This whole dilemma got me feeling like this Laughing

Go for it! Dimensionally we're identical at 6' and 200lbs, and it'll make you a better rider (even if it is a bit more work) after your moto hiatus. Milestone and Perris are very 125 friendly; Cahuilla, GH, and Pala Main can be more of a struggle due to the hills, elevation, deep prep, big jumps, etc. however...

Just so you know I'm not blowing smoke, check a few of my fat guy on a little bike SoCal videos Cool

And if you're interested, I have this clean 2006 for sale as well: https://www.vitalmx.com/forums/For-Sale-Bazaar,26/2006-YZ125-4200,13431…

Don't be ridiculous, guy, a ridgeline is just a glorified minivan. I have class, I drive a Caddy.

My dude awesome videos!! They pull you around there pretty well! Thanks for sharing that! I saw on your FS thread you like the CR better... do you feel like that's a better choice?

I may go to Pala every now and then just to change it up but I don't really plan on going to Glen Helen. I'll probably just stick to what's super close to me for the most part unless a group is going out to another place you know?

I hear you on track selection; Great to have the variety that we do in SoCal.

As far as the CR vs. the YZ, I have an 08' CRF450, 96' CR250, and am looking into a 17' + CRF, so I'm a certified Red Rider nut...The CR ergos are better and it handles amazing, but the motor is a slug in stock form! A stock YZ125 is basically a modded CR; but we're talking 125's which aren't all that fast or torquey to begin with. Varner can change this, and I'm working on a 144 which may be a game changer, but it takes time and patience. Best to find the lowest hour unit you can and just have fun! Let me know what you're looking for, I'll keep my eyes peeled for local deals.
