Pretty cool track. He had some interesting line choices. Blows me away how quickly they can process which line to take in the woods. There was a part (maybe a glare on the go pro) I saw the line on the left and right but he stayed in the middle which I didn’t even notice. Thought for sure he about to hit a tree

So are these guys paid extra to reach up and wipe the lens clean when they think it might be dirty? I really do appreciate him doing it but strikes me as an odd thing for a pro in the middle of a race to worry about.

I assume since he got mud on his goggles, he knew the GoPro needed attention too. Did he wipe or was it some kind of tear away? As he goes by the pits at the end of lap 1 he pitches the GoPro to his mechanic. He looks so comfortable blasting through the trees at speed, those pine trees freaked me out.

Woods racing is a lot different than moto. In offroad, as long as you see the person in front of you, you have no reason to panic. He obviously knew he could turn it on and catch up/pull away from anyone at any given moment so taking the extra time to get himself situated and wipe his lense is not detrimental in a 2+ hour race.

In moto every tenth counts, so wiping your GoPro is more costly to your race.

He looks like he is flying through there. Looks like a lot of fun. I wonder how many pretty fast MX guys try this and end up hitting a lot of trees!?

As of late yes he has been on the 350. But he has ridden a 250xcf and 150sx in GNCC seasons past, hes also ridden a 450 for the Big 6 stuff out West.

I mean I get it. I've raced off-road and moto for 30+ years locally. I'm just surprised at the number of times he cleaned it. Everytime I thought about skipping ahead because the lens got plastered he'd reach up and clean it for me. I'm just guessing that is per request of GoPro and if so do they make it worth his time to worry about. Even given the different pace of off-road racing I wouldn't give a second thought to the camera.

That was really cool to watch. Helps explain the popularity of woods riding/racing.

That's not all processing speed. The top guys and a lot of the amateurs walk or bicycle the track before they race on it. They're out there picking lines and finding options. They remember most of the track, and then during the morning race, the factory teams will have crew members walking or bicycling the course and reporting back on how the course is developing, and real bad spots, alternate lines, etc. Also the top pros will also personally check out spots they think will get bad while the morning race is going.
