Best way to get better on a bumpy track?

Hello

What do you guys think is the best way to get better in the second race where the track is bumpy on a race day?
I can always get a good laptime in qualifying and ok laptimes in first race but have difficulty with second race

Ride a 250.

But seriously, stand a lot and try to control the bike with your legs as much as possible. Your arms will blow up. No if’s ands or buts about it.

Try to ride “French” lines. Think pourcel 2010ish. Track edges, way wide or inside, go where other people haven’t been to smooth the track out.

Unlocking the hips and sticking your butt out has turned into a meme recently, but there’s some truth to it. Tilting your pelvis forward forces you to use more glutes and back muscles. That will keep you more stable and won’t tire you out as quick. Good posture will also let the bike dance a little more without taking you with it.

Awesome tips.

Also when hitting bumps into corners, get off the brakes and hold the throttle on a bit just enough to stay going forward instead of driving down into them all. Makes them smoother.

Ride clapped-out, bumpy tracks all the time, like we old dudes used to do every day after school. Anybody can go fast on groomed, watered tracks. Learn to maintain traction and control on slick, dry, bumpy crap tracks and you'll be a far better rider.
Don't have clapped-out, bumpy tracks near you? Go ride your local track in the afternoon instead of the morning.

Race a couple off-road races! Some of the harescramble courses we have here are straight up 10 miles of non stop sand whoops and large palmetto roots. Learning to attack the sand whoops made by 400+ bikes made braking and acceleration bumps on MX tracks fun.

Ride the edge of the track, maybe set your suspension up more geared towards second moto roughness, show up at the track later in the day for practice so it’s tougher and you will get better

Stand up in the attack position, practice in rough stuff as much as you can and try moving out of the main line/chop, even if it’s only a few feet over.
