So I got a new bike and my side plates get black from my boots rubbing on it. What's the best way to clean them?

Don't think it's possible if you don't cover the plastic with vinyl graphics.

Carb cleaner or contact cleaner should help remove those black marks.

I have never tried this before but this thread gave me a good idea. You should try using magic erasers, I have used them at work before and they work great for removing scuffs on walls and a lot of other surfaces! I'm sure it will work great on plastics too, just make sure you soak it in water first and then squeeze it out

Yep...good old BrakeKlean.

Use plain white paper towels, spread them over the area on the plastic and saturate with the BK.
Let it set for about 30 seconds and you can wipe that gooey crap right off.
Wash the plastics afterwards with dish soap to stop them from fading.

Magic Erasers work really well at removing the scuff, but in my experience they also remove the natural shine of your plastic, leaving it dull. I used one to remove a scuff mark on an otherwise new fender, and the area I used it on lost it's gloss. So I had a shiny new fender with a dull spot in the middle. I put a sticker over it, but I could've saved the trouble and just put a sticker over the scuff mark, too.

Wheel and tire cleaner and a scrub brush. Works awesome on seat covers as well.

You guys are killing me with the plastic ruining chemicals!! Windex takes it right off! Wd 40 works well too and doesn't leave a dull finish!

100% right, don't do contact/brake clean if you like your plastic. WD40 / Maxima MPPL and magic eraser or 0000 steel wool for graphic covered plastic. Bare plastic, WD and microfiber rag.

Great on black boot scuffs as well.

SOS pad and no I'm not kidding. You can even get fairly aggressive without it scratching the plastic.

Contact Cleaner to get rid of the scuff marks and SC1 to shine it up. I do it every weekend.

Gasoline, cheap, abundant, multi purpose, always cleaned the fenders and side panels with gas, great degreaser/cleaner!

Dawn and warm water.

Use it on the entire bike. Keeps it looking new.
