I know there are a few older threads on this, but just wondering if people are still using rifle boxes. Anyone have one they recommend? I assume you want to stay under the 48 inch limit for UPS. Also, is it true they charge you 10 dollars extra to ship these now? I am trying to balance the ease and safety of using one, with it being heavier than a shipping box and a potential surcharge.

I am sending to Enzo (from PA to TX), but I know FC and RaceTech will send a box. Do those work well for people?

Thanks!

Gun case for sure but I've always used boxes with bubble wrap taped in key areas (like all around the lower exposed sliders) with no issues. Just make sure you take up any extra space with bubble wrap or cardboard so the legs & shock don't slam around at all.

I just shipped my suspension via UPS in a rifle case. I created the shipping label myself and just brought it in to drop off, no extra charge and they just asked me if it was a gun I said no and that was that. Definitely the best way I’ve done it.

I just always used a box from FedEx until I bought suspension that came with a case. If you go to a FedEx store, they make a specialty box for golf bag that is perfect size - 15x15x48. the box is $12, and they will pack it for you for "fragile item" for $29.99.

If you go with a gun case, I used some extra cardboard and strapping tape and made a custom box that fits around the gun case perfectly. Then I don't have to worry about the clasps, etc or it looking like a gun case lol.

Pelican 1720 Rifle Case is what I use. Lots of folks just use a cardboard box.

Helped a bunch of racers go race in Germany and such, and gun cases are the easiest.

If you are shipping, make sure you tell them they're discharged. Put a note inside saying that too.
They don't like shipping charged ones due to pressure, so if you get some worker who's technical.

If you have an Austrian bike with airforks you can save some money by collapsing the forks and fitting them in a much smaller box.

I bought the two sided case from academy sports. Put insurance on it and Allow extra time to have it done. I just had my son's new honda suspension done by a reputable company and the guy assured me it would only be 2-3 day turn around and we would have it back in time for Arenacross

First of all I don't think he understood how a tracking number works. It showed it was delivered on a friday and he lied when I called about it and said he had just gotten it which was Wednesday.

The next Tuesday I said just send it back I cannot wait any longer. Magically it was done that day.it cost me $345 overnight shipping to get it in time

Won't use them ever again

I will always use Enzo, even if I end up with a bike with non-KYB stuff. Been using them since 2005, and it has always been perfect, at least for me. I think they run things a bit more on the aggressive side, but make up for the stiffness with great valving.

Enzo California will send out suspension shipping boxes if a credit card is given and address. They won't charge anything if the suspension does show up at Enzo..

Yeah, at least from PA to TX, Enzo said it was not worth the cost to send me an empty box. Happy to have the gun case to use over and over. I also used thick Saran Wrap and some tape around it for extra security.

It did end up weighing 42 pounds, which is not super cheap to ship. It was 55 bucks via FedEx insured at $1000.

I just have Factory Connection send a box. I'll save that box as long as possible and get another one after a few shipments. Costs a little more but saves time. Efficiency vs cost savings....work is always busy. I did buy a cheap rifle box but i didn't trust it. There's a level of cheapness to these rifle boxes....if you get a decent one it would work great IMO.

On its way to Craig at Enzo now!
On its way to Craig at Enzo now!

Which brand of case is this?

Did it already come with the foam padding on top and bottom?

Did you cut out the bottom shapes yourself or did it come that way?

Cool case!

with the gun case do you guys tape it shut for security during shipping? I just ordered a new pelican and always wondered how and what you did to make sure it doesn’t pop open during shipping … i guess you could also run some zip ties through the lock holes???

I’ve shipped my stuff in my pelican case, from California to Florida, multiple times with no issues.
I used PayPal ShipShation or Pirate Ship and save money in shipping costs
