Best smaller toy hauler for MX

Looking into grabbing a toyhauler in the next few weeks for motocross.. trying to stay under 30ft with a private bedroom preferably, anyone have any experience as far as overall package? I know a lot of these are poorly built so I’m looking for opinions

2 bits of advice, spend more $ than you want and get something with some quality, you will get it back when you go to sell it. also get one that a side x side will fit in, it will help with resale value.

You know in my experience with trailers/toyhaulers etc, there all pretty much garbage.... we’ve had newer units and have friends etc with them and it seems they all have issues. I would say grab the one with the best layout /options that your looking for regardless of what the price tag says. If I were buying one again, which I won’t, I wouldn’t hesitate to buy a Carson fun-runner or any other “ cheap “ model! They’re all “ cheaply” built .... imo!

Especially stay away from the ones from 2020 or newer. All the manufacturers were/are pumping them out so fast due to demand that their quality control is almost non existent.

I've got a Carson Funrunner. No private bedroom and it's not fancy, but it has been super reliable for years of desert camping, especially when compared to the issues I've seen with friends trailers.

I had an Iconic 25' that was really good. Owned it for 6 years with no issues.

If I were to buy a new one today, hands down I would pay up for an ATC Gamechanger. They are all aluminum so they are light and easy to pull. The roof is aluminum, so you wouldn’t have to deal with rubber roofs leaking which in turn causes wood to rot in the walls, plywood floors to get soft and rot, etc...which leads to thousands of dollars in repair bills. Ask me how I know. Aluminum doesn’t rust or rot, so in theory the trailer will last forever. The tough part is finding one. Good luck with that. I’ve been looking for months. They aren’t cheap, but an ATC Gamechanger is my next toy hauler.

Had a LivinLite VRV for years. 18’, 2500lbs dry, aluminum construction. Loved it. Sold it for more than I payed after 5 years. Tough to find, but if you can, they can’t be beat.

I’ve been looking too and from what I’ve seen the work and play toy haulers built on car trailer chassis look far better than anything built on a camper chassis. Not as flashy on the inside but better construction.

I would get one with the divided garage/living area not the open area ones. I don’t want to have to make that choice of sleep on the fold down beds or leave the bikes outside. Also check out Moto tech trailers

I have a Livin Lite Quicksilver 7x20. It’s all aluminum construction inside and out. It does not have a private bedroom but I can lower the bed down to the top of the handlebars and sleep without unloading.
They don’t make these anymore and I looked for quite a while before finding this one.
If money was no object and I were in the market again I would buy an ATC front bedroom model.

I picked up a Salem FSX 181RT right before the shutdowns and have no complains on it so far other than the bathroom being a little tight. The way I looked at it was I'm outside most the time so the only thing I needed the camper for were to sleep, shit, and shower.

I just bought a Forrest river Salem fsx260rtx 3 weeks ago. I found a semi local dealer with it in stock and they gave me a really good price so I picked it up. Do your homework and shop around and you can save a lot of money. I would avoid camping world, I made the mistake of going there to look.

About what did you pay for the camper if you don’t mind me asking? I see a lot of those in stock I’m starting to think it doesn’t really matter which route I go because they all seem to have there own problems.. I’d like to stay under 30ft and around or under 30k

It was $21511 before tax and title with the torsion anti sway hitch included.

I have a 2019 model that I paid $17.5k for new pre covid. I have had zero issues with it so far.

Keystone makes a small 23 ish length camper. Front garage. Not as much of a “dedicated” garage but they have a rear slide out master bed, and a fold down bed if you don’t have bikes in the front. I have a 2007 28 ft version. It’s been decent, don’t use it as much as I should but I paid about 7k 5 or 6 years ago for it and at this point it owes me nothing.

I think it’s a 230KRS or 280 KRS (#’s equaling feet). The 28 has the side slide as well.

They’re all junk. Pick your favorite trash and roll with it.

I looked pretty hard at the Outback Ultra lite. Ultimately we didn’t go with it because at the time we were planning on getting a golf cart for camping. It wouldn’t fit a cart plus a dirt bike or two. Ultimately I’m glad we went with the Salem FSX because we ended up getting a UTV. There’s no way a UTV would ever fit in an outback. But if 2-3 dirt bikes is all you have it would be a nice camper.

I was ready to sign the paper work for a Palomino Puma at an RV show a few years ago til the salesman ticked me off. I was paying a really good portion with cash however he was continuously trying to sell me a loan. The donkey wanted me to take out a 12 year loan because he got a kick back if I did. After telling him multiple times to sell me the camper, not the loan, I ended up getting up and walking away. It was a really nice camper. A little heavier than the Salem FSX, but it was definitely more loaded inside. I don’t remember the exact price I was getting it for, but I believe somewhere around $24k.

Also, OP, don’t pay any attention to those retail prices on these ads. They aren’t anywhere even close to what you should expect to pay. I believe I remember reading online that you can expect to pay around 20% below what the listed price is.

Mostly with a Duramax 2500hd , but also tow on shorter trips 2-5 Hours with a 2020 Tahoe RST with leveling bags . 65-70
Does fine with 2 bikes, but pack light. With 2500 2 bikes and mule like it’s not even there . I believe they make same model 2’ shorter. Really happy so far, I know they are cheaper the a Motovan but best for me. With Wife and dogs. We take on many trips to Hill Country and non moto related trips Aslo just got a bagger so sturgis coming up
And having a blast in Daytona with street & Sx

21 ft is the max for a half ton truck with a weight distributing hitch and a good quality trailer brake controller, and if you’ll be climbing and descending hills on a regular basis, I’d back that down to 18.

1/2 ton trucks come with these ridiculous "tow ratings" of 12K..13Klbs. You can not pull anywhere near that in the real world when you start calculating payloads, axle weights. I think a real world number of @8,000lbs and about 30' are the absolute limit with a max tow set up truck. If you have hills or mountains, even less.

Upgrade to a Super Duty though and then you can basically tow anything you can hitch too.

That Wildwood looks nice. It just drives me nuts that they still use the siding on the sides though. Fiberglass cant be that much more expensive. Insurance is a heck of alot cheaper when they dont have to worry about hail pounding the sides
