Best premix oil for YZ250 2017/18

Edited Date/Time 12/16/2018 3:58pm
Hi everyone,

Sorry if this has already been discussed to start with. I have recently decided on getting a 2017/18 YZ250. Im going to be racing motocross and hare scrambles with the bike. So far im thinking about using Motul 800/710 but im not sure 100% which one to use. I like the smell of motul oil but obviously thats not everything, i have had bad luck with castor 927 oil so i dont really want to use that and im not a fan of the benol stuff. What do you guys reckon i should use for the woods and the track and also what ratio?

Thankyou

I'm a big fan of Pro Honda HP2 personally. Usually ran it 40:1 in my old YZ and ran like champ

Premix threads are very entertaining.....I'm a fan of Motorex Powercross 2T @ 40:1. flashpoint is middle of the road so it burns clean. All the modern oils are really good and if you mix per the oil mfg's recommendations, you'll get good results.

Can’t get any better than Motul 800. I’ve always ran it at 50:1 in my YZ 250 with great success.

Mixed with C12, there is not better smelling 2 stroke fuel/oil combo Tongue Just my opinion though haha

Realistically, any quality oil will be fine. I've always used Yamalube 2R as has my dad for 20+ years. Never had an issue so I've never had any reason to switch unless for some reason I couldn't get it last minute.

Motul 800, 50:1. It's clean, smells good, and worth the money.

Klotz Super Techniplate is what I always ran in my YZ250. Smells fantastic and never had any issues with it.

Yep same here. I run Klotz in both of my two strokes and their MX4 in my 250F. Klotz for the win! And best smell!!

All of these testimonials boil down to one simple truth. They all work. Follow the recommendation in your owner's manual and you will be fine. I had a case of Yamalube that I used in all of my bikes until it was gone. No problems. I had a case of HP2, same thing. Even had a case of Maxima 927 and guess what. That worked fine as well.

I’ve only ever ran Amsoil Dominator in my two strokes and it’s been great. I don’t think there is much difference between all the major brands.

This, just use what you can get easily. I use Lucas at 50:1, but damn near anything will work for you.

Over the past 7 years, I've tested 4 oils (motorex, amsoil, 927, and 2R in my 2011 150 and 250sx. Each oil went through 2 pistons (except amsoil 1). I moved away from Motorex initially since I was pissed sending out my cylinder for new nikasil plating during each topend. Amsoil was better with 927 being a little better than amsoil buy still showing more wear than I'd like to see. Upon a recommendation from a friend to try 2R, the results have been amazing through 4 pistons. 2R's lubrication is absolutely the best I've witnessed, as each piston comes out with virtually no disernable wear and the cylinder plating is scarless.

I may ride orange on the outside, but the blood is all yamalube 2R blue
