My son is 5 and starting to get quick. The wife was getting after me this weekend because all of the other kids were wearing neck braces. I've never worn one and wouldn't know. He wears a Fox chest protector. Which one do y'all recommend?

Atlas Tyke, Atlas Broll or Leatt Fusion 2.0. Used them all for my kiddos. All great choices.

My son wears the leatt fusion 2.0 and had the previous version as well. Some of the kids he races with have the motocross vest (http://motocrossvest.co) and then a seperate leatt or atlas neck brace.

Atlas is the only way to go. All the others I've seen prevent the kids from riding with the correct body position due to the helmet hitting it in the back. They have to raise their chest up more in order to see far enough ahead. Atlas seems to allow the best range of motion. The helmet will still touch in the rear if they really get their chest down, but it's nowhere near as bad as the others I've seen.

In all honesty, once my kid outgrows his Atlas, I don't know that I'll get him another neck brace. I'm just not convinced that they do anything other than cause bad riding position, which also causes riders to go down. I've personally talked to Ryan Hughes on this subject and he is 100% against neck braces for this very reason. He was very knowledgeable about the subject, enough so that it really got the wheels kicking in my head.

Atlas with a vest is a good setup. I have an Atlas tyke mine is growing out of. I'll make you a deal on it if interested PM me. Good shape still.

Thanks for the feedback everybody. It's very helpful.

Braaphole, yeah I've seen/heard Ryno go off about them, which is one reason I never used them, but if it makes wifey feel a little better, then I'll take it.

Definitely go Atlas, funny how Ryno uses a Leatt neck brace in his video to make his points of why he feels they are bad and not an Atlas. I’m guessing he does that because you’d be able to see that the Atlas isn’t as restrictive as the Leatt so he would have a harder time proving his point!

I feel like neck injuries aren't nearly as common in kids. Personally, I've never heard of one in all the years I've been around racing. Could be wrong though.

We used the Atlas with Motovest. He never complained, but I didn't put it on him a couple races ago. He was looked faster. Afterwards I sat down and asked him how felt riding with out it. He said he felt like he could move better. He hasn't worn it again.
As you can see if never hindered his body position, but if just a comfort thing. I may slip it back on with out making a big deal about it and see if he complains.

To add. We had the Leatt fusion before going to a brace/vest. He had zero movement in that thing and hated it once he tried the atlas/motovest. Every time I see a kid in one, I point out to their parents how stiff and off it puts their body positioning..
