2 brothers pipe on my 2005 RMZ450, +9HP and changed the bike completely to a low to mid power band like a diesel.
I couldn't believe the dyno chart or the seat of the pants feel improvement.

A good riding school.

For 99% of us, these modern bikes-even stock-don't hold us back AT ALL. Our technique-or lack of it-does though.

Improving technique will drop lap times more than ANY mod that can be made to a bike, for most riders.

How do you like the auto aspect of it?
It’s like cheating. I can ride a gear high through most corners and never worry about stalling. I honestly never touch my clutch after the gate drops. The first day I got my new bike, I tried to ride it with the stock clutch and realized how much more work it is. I called Rekluse on my way home from the track and ordered my Radius CX.

Aside from the many mentions of jetting and suspension, my fave is having this radial mount, four piston, Magura front caliper on my CRF450. Now this is a fugging STRONG front brake!!! Actually, most would call it overkill, but
I really love the light touch. Full details in this thread:
https://www.vitalmx.com/forums/Tech-Help-Race-Shop,42/Monster-front-bra…

Never seen radial conversion on an MX bike, used for MX.. these Cobra twin discs are mint loads of power .. but loads of feel too.. back wheel off the ground on the brakes on dirt is no problem.

Routinely changing the ATF and air filter after every day of riding. Might be 3-4 people that comment here who need any mods at all.

'89 CR500 - best mod I ever did was to sell that thing.

PC did a great job with pipe, silencer and porting. But that first year of inverted Showa forks were garbage. Noleen tried to fix them up but it was hopeless.

Well, based on a cost to benefit ratio, back in ‘85 I had an RM250, which was supposed to be slow, but I read somewhere that 3rd gear was the holeshot gear and whoever was able to shift to third first usually got the holeshot. So, I went for a sprocket change, and well, I was too tight to pay for a rear sprocket, so I dropped the front sprocket 1 tooth. After that, I probably holeshot at least 75% of the races I entered. Was the gearing ideal, no, but I learned to ride with that gearing and had decided that it was considerably easier to win a race when you start in the front. I still remember that sprocket cost me $12. Later in the season, I remember a local A rider who rode the same RM ask me what I did to my bike to pull hole shots like I did. I told him my secret and his response to me several weeks later was “Holeshot Machine”

Flexxbars then a pleated seat. Couldn’t believe how much better those bars were off road vs fatbar and how much easier to stay in place with pleated seat.

4 stroke swingarm on my YZ250. Seriously, I always struggled with front end push before I ripped my chain guide off and blew out my hub at endurocross, but once I got that newer swingarm on it was like a whole new bike. The fact that Yamaha doesn't do this right from the factory is a crime against humanity, I don't even want to buy a new bike because the handling is significantly better on mine than one off the dealer floor.

SSS forks, and rear shock from an '08 YZ250F on my '03 YZ125. Oh, and an RPM's 167 motor. I may not be any faster, but that bike sure is fun to ride!

Suspension, and a mountain bike.
Mountain bike is a good one. The year I was riding mountain bike 3 or 4 days a week was the year I finally started picking up speed and won a championship. I noticed it most in my line choice. Line choice is everything in mountain biking.

Outside of that, nothing helps my confidence like a good set of rubbers.

Previous owner of my bike was a quick motocross guy. I'm a slower cross country racer. He had it valved stiffer than James Stewarts yamahas. Suspension was easily the best mod I've done.

What’s the story behind that crank?

It creates additional vacuum in 2 stroke cases helping pump A/F through the motor. I used them along with a handful other Team Green riders in the '90's.

I did some work with the engineer on them in recent years and found usually a 5%-7% increase across the range.

What's the difference between them?

Got rid of the crappy 4CS suspension off of my KTM 250 SX-f factory edition and installed WP cone valve and Trax Shock.
