Best VP fuel for stock 4 stroke

Edited Date/Time 1/17/2015 8:44pm
Looking at getting VP fuel for my stock 250f. Not sure if VP4.4 or MR12 or another one is the best choice. Not concerned about cost just looking for the best horsepower gains while I ride the vet track!

Save money and run half high test and half regular. No need for race fuel for stock motor IMHO.

I am running race gas only because I am sick of clogged pilot jets after letting the bike sit a month.

If you run a fuel that is oxygenated like 4.4 you will need to get the bike remapped. I would look for one that is non oxygenated.

Interesting. In my experience with race gas I ran initially in the Stealth Pro you did not want to spill it on your graphics nor could you let it sit in the bike but this was in 2009.

T-4.... you will not need to map.

U4.4 and you will have to map.

I learned that the hard way.

If you can get the map, U4.4 will make more power.

Someone will probably rip me for referencing MXA, but this is a pretty good article on the different fuels:

http://motocrossactionmag.com/news/racers-guide-to-the-hierarchy-of-mot…

I am biased but MXA is the source of all things technical. When I raced a YZ250F last fall I searched MXA for that bike and got the suspension settings I wanted.

Also just heard a story last week from a customer about another racer Jody is helping comeback from some life challenges.

Heard mixed things about VP110 in four strokes. I use it in my two stroke. I've been meaning to call and ask if it's good for the four stroke before mine comes in. Works well?

I ran vp110 in my 08 crf250 a few times during Arenacross. Doesn't make the bike any faster. I was just looking to run the bike in a cleaner gas an somethin with a little more bang since ur trying to push the bike more than Normal

A few times I have used VP 110 mixed 1/2 and 1/2 with 93 pump gas and saw no real difference in performance. Maybe it ran a little crisper if you want to call that better performance.

I have wanted to use race fuel a lot more than I have but.... I just don't think there is enough of a performance gain to justify the cost. I have a Sonoco (sp) station that sells their brand race fuel around the corner and no matter what octane you get it was 80-85 bucks for 5 gallons (I haven't checked since gas prices have dropped). I cannot stomach that. Its a rip off. I use plain ole ethanol 93 pump gas. Both bikes are fuel injected too. We ride almost every weekend so it doesn't sit in the tank that long.

If prices come down I would like to try either the T-4 or U4.4 or equivalent as I have remapped both bikes. If prices don't drop then I am going to keep on doing what I have been.

If race fuel isnt warranted it will COST you horsepower. I'm not talking about the oxygenated stuff. But say VP 112/116. That stuff is to prevent detonation not make horsepower. I know this is cars but back when I used to drag race cars a lot they did a dyno test with pump gas (93) and race gas VP112. On a fairly stock 5.0 mustang the car made over 6 more hp with pump gas over race gas! If the motor doesn't need the high octane you are wasting money and losing power. To my knowledge, all modern 4 strokes run fine on 93 pump gasoline.

T4 is what you would want and the VPR is the same fuel but with.lead

T-4 is basically quality premium pump gas with 0 Ethenol. I've got firsthand experience with what Ethenol does and won't let it run in my 250F. I've got some other play bikes that I just run the cheap premium pump gas in but have to do a lot more fiddling and cleaning in the fuel delivery system because of it. I've been very happy with VP and unlike other race fuels, there's no Ethenol.

t4 unless your gonna map, than u4.4, my 450sxf was finicky on the u4.4 even though it was mapped for it

if price isn't an issue I'd run the VP Pro6. the MR12 is a pain to work with when things get hot, as in vapor lock and keep it cool. Pro6 isn't as bad and makes the most power from what I've been told. you will need to remap for the biggest gains.

T4:
UNLEADED/OXYGENATED

Usage: T4 is the four-stroke version of VPR. It is an all-around race fuel for stock four-stroke engines.

Preferred engine type: Four-stroke.

Antiknock octane: 100.

Features: T4 is designed for stock four-stroke engines. Unleaded and ethanol-free, T4 is a direct, pour-in replacement for premium pump gas. T4’s 100-octane rating (R+M/2) provides greater protection against detonation. Compared with more expensive performance enhancements that increase power along only a small slice of the power curve, T4 offers 3 percent more power and better throttle response across the entire rpm range.

Bottom line: T4 is the four-stroke version of VPR. With a 100 R+M/2-octane rating, it has 5 octane less than VPR. The lower octane makes it better for most stock four-stroke engines.

Just drain your float bowl after each ride to keep the pilot jet clean and also use a fuel stabilizer. Both are much cheeper than running race fuel.

I like the vp u4.4 cause its super oxygenated, my throttle response is that much better and it's super crisp.

So now fuel injected bike have "pilot jets" that clog. That is a new one on me!
I don't think it's fuel injected.

I want to run no ethanol. Guys at the track are running a 4:1 90 no ethanol with 110 VP and having great results. What do you think?

What type of damage, if any, would running VPR in my '16 CRF250R cause? Got a sealed jug from a buddy who is getting out of racing. Should I run or straight or mix it with premium pump gas?

But its not cool to say you're running "regular gas." You sound faster when you say you're running "race fuel." TongueCool
