I know I could count on everyone on Vital to give me the best input and help me decide on what brand and year 250 2 smoker to buy. Im looking to spend no more than 2g's mark because I want to all the mods myself. Looking for a Diamond in the rough find something someone bought and rode in the field by their house than sat in the garage for years. I would like something completely stock. I know that they are a harder find but I have seen them before. I just want to make sure I buy the most Realiable bike because I would like to build this bike and hand it off to my 5 year old son when he is old enough to ride it.

I grew up on the smell of premix and miss how fun they are to ride.

I have a Crf450 now and love it, I even thought about selling it. Don't know if I would want to part with it but do you think I could get a good buck for it? Maybe has 5 Hrs on it after I rebuilt it.

...don’t we all...

Look on Craigslist. Set your price and bookmark it on your phone. Don’t use specific search terms. Just sort by newest and check as often as you can. Like once an hour. There are gems out there but they go quick. Be ready to go look at the bike asap. I missed out on a couple of bikes trying to schedule a meetup for a day or two later.

That's a sweet CRF, Id keep it til you know you want to sell it, you sound undecided.
Like Calcoast said, Check craigslist and FB groups as often as you can, All late model 2 strokes are good IMO, I'd aim for the newest and cleanest YZ you can afford, The last model RMs are Gen 2 and Gen 3 CRs are very good bikes as well.

I'd look for 2006+ yz250's at that price point. Solid bikes and depending on where you are in the country you can sometimes find a clean one at that price.

I spent $2500 on an 07 YZ250, did some light mods to it and rode it for a few years then turned around and sold it for $2700. The steel frame models aren't anything to shy away from in my book. You can always upgrade suspension in the future. One thing I would suggest right out of the gate is getting the head cut to set your squish, It's kinda all over the place from the factory.

You can’t go wrong with any older 2 stroke as long as you find one that’s been taken care of. I bought the first cheap two stroke I could find, it was a total night mare having to fix all the issues that could have been prevented be routine maintenance.
