Best RC - Daniel Blair exchange ever?

Edited Date/Time 2/5/2021 4:47pm
It went something like this:

Commentator; Ricky, tell me what the heighten tension is like when you find yourself in the LCQ?
RC; Actually, not trying to be disrespectful, but Daniel is the best person to answer that as he found himself very many LCQs!!
Commentator; Daniel you want to comment here?
Daniel Blair; Not only is that very disrespectful Ricky, but also very true!!

I too got a kick out of that.

At some point didn't they say RC was only in 2 LCQs in his whole career? If true that is pretty incredible, I was never really a fan but man was he good.

Ricky can be brutally honest. Reminds me of Hannah’s demeanor but more playful.

The best RC-Blair exchange was in a casino obby in Vegas 2 years ago. Both drunk, RC screaming at an ATM machine, “I have 10 million in there, give me my 300”.

Carmichael had 115 starts in the 250 class and 18 starts in the 125 class - 133 total.

My LCQ data only goes back to 2013. But for comparison, from 2013-2021, Ken Roczen has had 101 starts (9 in the 250 class) and he has only had 1 LCQ, and that was on a 250 in 2013.

Dungey had at least 3.

Tomac has had at least 4.

Musquin has 1.

Those guys all raced during the semi-final era (2014-2017), so that made it a little easier to avoid the LCQ. Also, there aren't a lot of triple crown rounds, but those make it easier to avoid LCQ's.

So if Carmichael really only had 2 LCQ's, it's probably more impressive than Roczen's 1 LCQ. (He advanced through a Semi 7 times.)

Daniel Blair had to ride an LCQ in the Lites class one year at the Baltimore AX. He got third place and didn't qualify for the main event. However, Cometic Gaskets sponsored the third place finisher and gave them a check for $150 on stage with an interview. Blair said "this is the most embarrissing thing ever" and threw the big fake check on the floor and walked off. What a dick.

If you ever want Bob Hannah to ask to fight you, just ask him to sign your Barack Obama bumper sticker. Ask me how I know LOL.

Yes, that was funny! Good on Blair though, for playing it off...and not being pissed at how disrespectful RC was.

Wasn't there for the context, but sounds like he was disappointed in himself for not making the main in an AX. Doesn't sound too dickish to me

RC learned at an early age & is the living embodiment that racing is about results & not participation trophies.

I must have missed when Ricky said this on the broadcast but he brought it up again during his podcast with Emig. (he asked Emig if he heard the exchange and laughed)

Ricky's humor is Southeastern 'good old boy' humor. I really enjoy it and think it adds a lot to not only the broadcast, but understanding Supercross and Motocross from his perspective. I'll never forget when he was watching someone race and said "if he goes any slower he is going to fall over". I use that line all the time.

I also like Daniel Blair's commentary a ton. He is sharp as a tack and brings in a lot and breaks-down situations on the track really accurately. I wish that he could do the Supercross preview show every week with his brother Vincent. It would be hilarious!

Ricky doesn’t have what it takes to do what Blair does now...and Blair didn’t have what it took to do what Ricky did then.

Just sayin...

RC used to be very defensive and have a fragile ego in his early announcing years. I think that has totally vanished which is very respectable and good to see. I think he genuinely passed on the question to Blair as Daniel would really have a better viewpoint for the viewers. I don't think it was a jab at all. It was pretty damn funny though.

If you noticed in his latest Real Talk 447 podcasts with Emig his tone has totally changed. He's way more serious not joking. When Emig makes jokes he doesn't even crack a smile and Emig has to repeat the joke. Not sure if that's Ricky now or he just wants to be done with the podcasts (maybe got sucked back into another year) Who knows?

On the other hand, over the years RC has been the butt of jokes several times on air from others mocking his height.

Yep, Daniel giving another trophy to a kid in the stands. Which he regularly did in AX... what a dick right?!?

Good one for sure.
I remember about 5 years ago the camera panned to a fan with FRO T-shirt on. RC called out to Emig on the air.. "Hey Jeff, Is that your neighbor?" Laughing

Not true! For most of RC’s career they head Heat 1 and Heat 2, Semi 1 and Semi 2 and THEN the LCQ. Ricky raced a few Semi heats in his career.

I assume you meant to respond to me.

I can't find what years they were running Semis before 2014.

Yeah that was funny as hell. RC can say some brutal shit, but what makes it so funny is that it's generally very true.. The immidiate look on the face/response of Daniel Blair, Emig, or whoever, is what makes it extra funny. No doubt Ricky knows who can handle it and who can't, so he's selective in who he smacks with it. I've felt plum sorry for Emig many times even if i was laughing.

Just a dick to the sponsor that paid him for not making the main event.
