Who left more race wins and titles on the table? Stew, with his crash or win style, going supercross only in his prime, dealing with a Yamaha that didnt work for him, and getting suspended for nearly 2 years, or RV? RV getting hurt in outdoors 09, breaking leg in 2010 and missing end of SX and outdoors, hurting knee in 2012 and again in 2014, his not full hearted GP attempt, and retiring in his prime?

How about RC leaving titles on the table by retiring in his prime?... and there was the one series he sat out with a knee injury...

Tortelli breaking his femur at the Coliseum...he had the speed to win that year. MC getting a flat or breaking a handlebar or having Lamy take him out twice at that first round...or pulling off the track because his pride wouldn’t let him ride around in midpack. RJ destroying a front wheel. Ryno with the cancelled race (maybe he would’ve beat GL...maybe not). What if Holeshot Hanson didn’t get hurt?Maddi breaking his leg just before that final 125 GP. That’s just thinking five minutes off the top of my head. You could go on and on with would’ve, should’ve, could’ve’s. I firmly believe I had some titles in my future if I didn’t break my humorus at Saddleback while racing the intermediate class in 1981...I’ve hung my hat on that my whole life.

Dungey isn't mentioned. I think Dungey would have 2 more titles if retirement didn't come a calling. Maybe 3 more and another 3 or 4 million dollars in his bank account.

Or maybe he crashes and never walks again? I don't blame Dungey, Poto, or RC for going out on top. They had plenty of money and their health. Imagine, all three 27'ish and loaded back accounts. Now that would be the life. I truly believe when Dungey broke his neck out doors that it scared him. one can't race scared or what might happen, at least not at that level.

I probably left the most titles on the table. I could have been the winningest rider this sport has ever seen, but I made the tough decision to retire once I realized I didn’t have any talent. I gotta say, that was one of the hardest decisions I ever made in first grade.

Yeah he said in several interviews about a year after quitting that the neck injury definitely was a factor in his decision

A strong anti-inflammatory medication, I forget the name of it exactly.

This is a great off season post-for those that don't want to bench race on the off season don't be debbie downers. To me Stewart is the easy choice here. Bubba's world took his focus away from strictly winning, getting injured too often and missing too much outdoors, and the suspension really killed him. I think he would have yarded MC's record had he insulated himself from outside distractions. MC said it himself in an interview that he hoped all of Stewart's cash took away his hunger and focus to win.
