Been stewing on this one for a bit

Edited Date/Time 2/5/2022 12:06pm
Why do riders walk the track with a helmet on? It seems so odd to me seeing guys just walking around with helmets on, no bike in sight. Is it just to get a visual of what the track looks like through a helmet? Seems like if that was the case they’d be wearing goggles to me. Just sitting here watching A2 Press Day and it has me curious.

I believe some of the C/B practices are right after track walk so you will see some with boots/gear ready.

As long as you brought up helmets.
We have 2 motor cops in our town that ride with open face helmets (AND MASKS). Unbelivable

Idiot here - and admitting it.

Often when I leave the office I'm on the phone or preoccupied. When I get home, I realize I still have my mask on - and laugh.

Sometimes I love to see people's reactions, too. I like when they look over and I say "Read my lips ..." under the mask. They just look at me puzzled like "what was heck was that guy saying to me?!" When I wink, the reaction is the best.

I'm an idiot. Some say dumb. And I'm totally OK with it.

Please be sure to downvote.

Does anyone ever think about the increase in carbon dioxide consuption a mask changes over normal breathing with an unrestricted exhale? I would think there is some, longterm or with increased heart rate, can't be too good for you.

Surgical masks don’t have an air tight seal so you are getting plenty of oxygen with a mask. The general public most likely isn’t wearing their n95 properly to create that airtight seal and I guarantee they have never been fit tested for the proper n95. Even if you were wearing the proper n95 with an airtight seal it wouldn’t affect anything.

We also breath out 16% oxygen. Our alveoli in our lungs are so efficient we don’t need the full 21% of oxygen in the air for diffusion to take place in our lungs. I have yet to see any mask decrease oxygen sats in a person or increase anyone’s heart rate(healthy adults). If anything, I’d be curious if any studies will be done on long term mask usage to see if any micro fibers from masks are being inhaled and what the long term affects would be on our lungs? Increased risk of infection? Cancer? Etc

Looks like your post has gone sideways OP 😂 that’s very rare here…..

But in all seriousness, I’ve noticed it before and it was the first thing I thought of when I saw the start of the media day footage today; why are they walking the track in their helmets? It’s media day, not like you have to run to your bike to make the gate drop. Even then, it takes a whole 5 seconds to put a helmet on and get completely comfortable.

Is there a real reason, or is it just; do what the rest of the crew is doing, thing?

It’s an easy way to carry your helmet around before you ride.

Hahahah I knew when I typed it it was gonna be ugly, but oh well!

It’s just odd to me, always noticed it and thought it was weird.

Thanks for the back up. The video you posted was actually what I was watching. I’ve seen it many times before and just think it’s odd.

I don’t start threads often but when I do I make sure it’s gonna be fun for all 🤪

WHO walks a track with their helmet on?

Are you talking pros or amateurs? I’ve never seen anyone walk a track with their helmet on.
I see the pros do it every week. It always looks funny to me seeing a bunch of dudes walking around with helmets on. I guess it’s just me, haha 🤷🏽

Second this use of logic

Logic that a napkin or a piece of tablecloth is helping “stop the spread” highly unlikely…

Carry on

I can't be the only one who opened this thread thinking it had something to do with JS7.

The riders are wearing their helmets on press day track walk because they are about to ride the track just minutes later. Their bikes are waiting nearby.

It has nothing to do with seeing the track through the helmet.

Sometimes it's very hard not to be condescending on this website.
