I used to ride wheelies on my bicycle up our street which was about 1/2 mile. I can barely get 10 feet on a dirtbike. Especially a slow wheelie.

I can "pop" a sweet wheelie.....but I can't ride it for my life.

Ha - When I as a youngster I could ride wheelies on my BMX (well Schwinn banana sweet bike SillyWhistling ) all day long for miles.

As I got older still rode them like a champ on my dirt bike.

As I aged - well not so much anymore and who cares.......the damn dirt hurts!CoolBlinkDry

I'm pretty sure this is one of the more important signals of whether a rider can be very, very good. A killer inner ear for balance and proprioception ("the sense of the relative position of one's own parts of the body and strength of effort being employed in movement") are key to moto success as much as strong lungs and fierce will.

i can literally only wheelie when im on the track and avoiding bumps, or going through rollers.. but if you ask me to ride a wheelie in wide open spaces, I jack it all up.

I can't wheelie for shit because I chicken out, however over whoops/braking bumps I can go vertical at speed with confidence.

My friend started on a 2 wheeler at 26 years old and he was wheeling all day on 2 stroke no problems all day.

I'm 61 and for some reason this is still important to me. I can wheelie as far as I want on my 625 KTM. If you can't wheelie that machine you should sell all you bikes and quit.
Chicks love wheelies regardless of age....Laughing

Most mini kids can whip and scrub. If you ever see me doing either...don't look away cause there's about to be a gnarly crash.

First threw my leg over a dirt bike at 4 years old, now 24 and i doubt i could even make it 10 feet doing a slow wheelie. No problem popping the front at 4th tapped down a cut up straight away though.. Weirdest thing.

It is waaayyyyy easier to do a wheelie on asphalt. That's how I learned. Hit the asphalt, do wheelies for days. Then take it to dirt/grass.

I can ride a wheelie on a dirt bike, but I can on a bicycle better I think it's better power control but I can on a bicycle for as long as I choose , not as good at keeping a long distance on a dirt bike

yes for sure...
a friend i got to ride with (who turned me from okay to very good) would, when we stopped riding, jump on someones "turtle" XL 175 and pop it up on the back wheel and just ride around us at walking speed still talking with us...

easily the most naturally talented guy on a bike i ever rode with...

if he took it serious, (he'd ride australian nationals, and pull top 5s) with no training, poor diet etc. the sky was the limit imo...

could just do anything he liked on a bike.... we'd have goon riding seesions and the shit he pulled was hilarious..

id do anything to have videos of those sessions

I don’t really care about being able to ride it but I just think about all the times being able to wheelie has gotten me out of bad situations on a bicycle

Every time I see this thread title I think of Austin Powers saying...

“And be honest, can you ride a wheelie, Baby?”

Bicycle like a mad man but couldn't do one to save my life on a motorcycle.
I used to ride a wheelie all the way to school on a stingray. No go on a motorcycle.

I can wheelie and manual (much harder) MTB and BMXs but not motos...

Thing is, thing about the seat time most of us get. If its anything like me, you turn up to a practise track and bust out laps, theres so much else to take in and worry about. When was the last time you were in an empty field playing all day with the balance point of a wheelie? Soley focusing on that. You don't really get that time to "play" like that on motos. Unless you're lucky and own land!

Pretty much the only thing I do well on a dirtbike, sadly.
