If picking a regular 250 guy, at this point I would say Hampshire. He has won a GP and would try harder than anyone. He is good at Red Bud and actually had a pretty good race despite the crash 2nd moto. He paced Jo the whole second moto.

For me, there’s no debate. Tomac, Sexton, Anderson and whoever is the most motivated to ride the 250, put him on it. Sometimes for this race, you gotta take one for the team. All three brands have a great 250. Yamaha is well proven. The Honda is tremendously better than previous years. The Kawi looks good this year outdoors and looked like it improved a lot (even from SX).

I’ve dropped down in 99 in Brazil to ride a shitty 125. Got roosted all day by guys I’d smoke on a 250 but I still had fun and we (France) got 2nd.

Anderson, with the speed/results (he won a race, guys!!) he’s shown/had this MX season is a way better choice than Barcia is you compare the 2 in the last 5 MX races.

Anderson won a MXDN moto before and the US should have won in Maggiora if the Japanese lapper didn’t land on El Hombre’s helmet on the finish line jump. He’s having the best MX season of his career. I don’t see Barcia beating Vialle, Geerts, (a) Lawrence or de Wolf on a 250, even at home in Red Bud. Anderson with his speed and the way he rides this year, I’m confident he could.

But hear me out... MXDN isn't divided per class. You don't have to win every class to win the overall. A few facts:

-You don't have to beat Herlings to win. I'm sure he went 1-1 before without winning the "race"
-You don't have to beat Gasjer to win. His country will never win MXDN
-France won 4-5 in a row and sometimes without winning a single class

As an American, you have to ask yourself what 250 rider with an American passport can have the best results against the 450s and what rider has access to the best 250 to compete against the 450s if you could pick anyone. Today, if I had to pick anyone to race a 250 to go race 450 guys, I'd pick a Yamaha rider so I'd pick Eli Tomac.

Yes, but you gonna say, yeah but Tomac can go 1-1. It doesn't matter if Eli goes 1-1 on a 450 and your 250 guy goes 12-13. The US won't win. Have Sexton/Anderson be in the top 3 in both of their motos and get an Eli in steamroller mode on a super powered Yami and get top 3 in the MX2/MX3 race and top 5-6 in the MX1/MX2 race. And this people, it's how to win the Motocross des Nations. You might not win a moto but you'll bring/keep the trophy home

If you guys need a team manager who thinks outside the box without any ties to any motorcycle manufactures nor energy drinks, I'm free at the end of September and I'm American now.... hahaha
Gotta admit, you’d be a bad ass team manager!

Sorry but as you saw yesterday Honda's 250 motors are questionable and Chase is one with his 450 right now. Eli has to be on a 450 and I'll take my chances with Chase over Anderson at this point based on where I think his head is at. Kawi doesn't have their own 250 program so what is Ando going to do, ride for Mitch? I'll take my chances with a very motivated BAM BAM on the 250 Wink

DV has one problem. He only tells the truth. He don't give one fuck about your feelings or couth. I'm an old bastard so I dig that about him. The younger folks may not embrace that sort of honesty.

Tomac, Barcia, Anderson have some unfinished business for Team USA. Adding Chase to 2022 Team USA is a no-brainer. hard to image Team USA losing this years MXoN

Eli, Chase and either Barcia or Craig on the 250 would be my choice. I feel like Craig might be an easier choice since he was on a 250 more recently. But either would be awesome.
This got me thinking, when was the last time Craig rode a 250 outdoor?

18 or 19 I think

Yeah, I'm not exactly a Barcia fan but that is effing gnarly. I'm not saying he should be on the team, but he should be in the conversation.

2019. The results are less than impressive. 10, 11,18,42,25 and 12.

Let's see what happens by Unadilla. I am still not convinced putting a 450 guy on a 250 gets better results than say Hampshire.

If you did put Anderson on the 250 that would get Mitch to the race which would be a good thing.

I'm with you on picking all 450 riders. But I think by the time Unadilla comes around Justin Cooper will have his riding sorted out by then

I think 19. But my thinking was just that he rode a 250 this year (albeit it was SX) and he looks good on the 450 outdoors, so I would assume he'd be comfortable on the 250 and ride it well.

DV's idea is cool too.

Should send Eli on a Star 250, Chase and Anderson on 450s. That's probably the fastest American combo right now.

How can anyone put Barcia in front of Anderson? even with Andersons bad starts or first turn tip overs he still manages to go through the pack and finnish in front of Barcia.

That also tells us that Anderson is a great charger / passer and would be a good option for the 250 since it's a great chance that a lot of passing has to be made on one even if the current 250 top riders often pulls good starts now at mxdn.

Tomac, Seston and Anderson would be the best choice for the american team imo.

Dungey isn't having bad starts and first turn tip overs though, nor is he taking riders out like Barcia and Anderson do. Those situations are what lose the race for USA.

It easily could be much like Saturday was. We have some really beautiful weather here in the fall. Last time around was just bad luck!

Did you watch Red Bud? Ando seems to be trending a little backwards and this is the point in the summer where Justin get's rolling. He's really good at Southwick and Millville and no slouch at Washougal for that matter. The next few rounds will give us a few answers Smile

This.
Odds are it will not be nice weather. With that being said you never know, maybe the gods will allow it to be sunny in Michigan at the end of September.

I think it's a pretty safe assumption that Mitch will be there...... His products are literally scattered all over the pits.

In defense of Seely, he was riding plenty well at MXdN before the mechanical issues.

Not sure how it's his fault that KYB/Honda couldn't come up with a shock spring setup that could hold together while he was battling for a top 5. Especially after it had already failed in the exact manner. I mean, throw some safety wire on there or something.

MXoN goes from September 23-25 this year, so I pulled the weather from over the past 10 years on September 24th since I can’t pick a 3 day window on the site. But as you can see, doesn’t really look like weather that would cause a mudder. Wink
