Any fans in here ? Anyone entered or headed down to spectate ? I can't pull it off this year, still too gimpy. Figured I'd start a thread to discuss it.
It's point to point this year, not a loop. And a longer one as well, should be interesting 1,227 miles is a long ass race

Who are the contenders on Bikes this year?

Saw SLR Honda has a Team so they will obviously contend, any other heavy hitters?

Entry list. The bikes are down a ways. I'll be rooting for 5x with Colton Udall Derek Ausserbauer and Brandon Peterson
1x will be the favorite I would think

Gonna probably take something going wrong for 1x for them to not win I would think after looking at that list.

Cool to see Kendall making a "comeback".

Doesn't Dillan Epstein on the 12x race Pro Motocross too?

Saw a vid of Ken Block testing his truck down there, holy crap! The suspension on that thing is ridiculous, love the technology, his co driver described Baja like racing on an angry marshmallow lol

I never did do off road in my Pilot, only short course, fuck that dusty hellhole.

Wow I cant believe they dont do more to gusset the frame on that bike, I thought they would do a lot more to it for Baja than they do.

If you have time this is a cool video. It covers pretty much every section and the planning these guys do when pre-running.

From what I've seen, the frames and subbies are pretty good as is. Chain guides need major help, though, and headlights take work. Lots and lots of little things, though!

Xeno could tell you more, maybe.

Didn't a quad almost beat the bikes in the 500? Heavy!

Unpopular opinion - Ken Block will DNF. (But he will win the media view numbers.)

Is this his first 1000 ? I tend to agree with you. "Today were going to concentrate on jumping" hope he's going to practice landing on rocks and cactus Laughing
2 bucks and a 6 pack says he breaks the truck

As a 2 wheel guy at heart I was gonna start a thread asking but wasn’t sure of the interest for the desert racing. I’ll be co-driver for sections in a Pro Turbo Utv (2900 car) for my first 1000 this year. I always watch the Baja races and have nothing but respect for the moto guys. I couldn’t imagine knowing a trophy truck was running me down on my bike. I’m leaving Colorado on Tuesday to go prerun my sections and start building my book. Cheers to all participating and wish everyone a safe and successful trip. I may post up in the non moto side if anyone is interested.

That video was laughable as far as a "preparing for Baja" thing. But, Ken will win the media show.
And please don't get me wrong- I wish anyone going down there to race it good luck and stay
safe!

Yes tell us all about it. I've been into it for years. We used to make a trip every year to watch the race then hang out for a few days after. Got out of it for awhile but I'm ready to start going again. Just can't pull it off this year. Add to this thread, start a new thread, whatever. Let's hear it

Right on guys! I’m in the shop finishing prep on the pre-runner and will start up a thread in the non-moto section this weekend and update as I can. I was in oval track racing in the southeast for most of my life and moved to Colorado and needed my fix again. I bought a YZF450 to get back on a bike but wound up with some guys at the San Felipe 250 this year as part of a chase crew and got hooked.
I’ll post up when I start a new thread over there. Cheers!

Did a bike tour/ride about 20 years ago on Xr600”s on parts of the Baja course. The guide doing the tour said locals setup Booby traps to injure riders? Count me out…. Froze my ass off 1 nite at Mikes sky ranch…. But we drank all the beer we could find😂

Talk to Charles Halcomb about the booby traps.... he hit one... at like 110 mph. Yikes! Ripped the forks off the bike. Factory XR600.

I was suppose to race on the 500X; but, the opportunity came a little too late into a really busy year...so...my Moto Madness for November will be the 3 Days of Red Bulls DITD 2021.

I'm hoping for a safe and smooth 1000 for all my friends & all the crews.

+1 for safe and smooth races for all involved.

Lots of drama for the bike #1 plate, and it's hard not to root for the 5x Team!

I’ll be cheering for my buddy Paul Hart #733x. He’s running the pro Moto Ironman.

1x are the favorites. Hard to beat a team on paper with arguably two of the fastest guys south of the border right now in Justin Morgan and Brandon Prieto. Add the experience of Kendall and Mark Samuels into that mix, and its tough to beat.

22x and 5x are battling for the 1x plate so that should be good to watch. I'm personally rooting for the 5x boys, I hope they do well.

Chris Gil with 109x team are trying to wrap up the Class 21 Championship and they've got some good riders on their team as well.

Should be a good race! Bummed I'm not down racing or even able to spectate this year due to work commitments, but hopefully I'll get an opportunity to get down next year to race.

I'd like to see the big moto Rally Racers in this Baja 1000. I think they have another rally race going on right now but always wondered why Brabek, Short, Toby Price and others don't race this world class event. Is it too short? Not enough Navigation?

Don't think their rally contracts cover this race and/or they are prepping for Dakar.
Brabec has won Vegas to Reno several times, including at least once on a version of his rally bike. Xeno could probably weigh in more accurately.

Also, those big rally bikes aren't really what you need down there, but of course they could
strip them down some, I'm sure.

Completely different style of racing. They have a Baja Rally every year, which is like a traditional rally event. But the Score baja races are far from a rally type race.
