Went riding last weekend for 1st time in 3 years...recurring back injury sustained from breaking my back on my 450 back in 2012 reared its head again in 2015 ...have ridden a total of 5 times since then but finally got back in the saddle...holy shit im still sore...picking a sand track for the 1st ride may not have been the greatest idea but i stayed upright..and had alot of fun even tho im way off any type of pace...cant wait till spring and hopwfully back stays in good enuff shape to get some speed back...

Good for you. I too just returned to riding after a 5 year hiatus. I had two back to back wreck that kept me out of work for a total of 10 months back in 14 & 15 minus 3 weeks in the middle of those two bad wrecks. Not many budgets can sustain 10 months of unemployment. I vowed I would not return to riding until I could sustain that type of time away from work. I am close but not quite there. The reason for my return is that my son was killed back in July and he was my grandson's riding partner (he was his uncle). Since he is gone I know my son would want us to continue to ride/race. It was apart his and my life since 2004 and I know he would want us to carry on. So, I will have returned but at a much slower/safer pace.

I certainly fell ya on the sore as shit part though. It had my thighs, glutes and traps on fire for about 3-4 days!!

Good for you. Nothing wrong with diving in to the deep end so long as you pace yourself. Looks like you had fun.

That’s great man. I feel bad for people who never experience moto. Can’t imagine life without it.

I also rode for the first time in two years last weekend. Had a blast, but damn I don’t miss driving 5 hours and another hour of cleanup.

I'm 42, and I'm back riding (2 years now) after 9 years off. It's crazy, I still had most of my skill, but for very VERY small spurts lol. All the muscle memory, with no muscle. Felt like I was getting old a lot faster when I wasn't riding.

A lot can change in that time. Bikes are totally insane now. They don't feel a lot different now (last bikes were 07 RM250, and 05 CRF450), but the tech involved in them like fuel injection and mapping is pretty neat. New bike is a 19 YZ450, and when I was downloading maps and tuning my bike from my phone, I couldn't believe it.. NO MORE JETTING

The biggest thing with me, I didn't want to get hurt riding over my head when I started to get fatigue. I mostly ride tracks, so I'd go out for a couple 15 min sessions, do a few laps, and then putt around playing in corners. I started doing a bit of core fitness this last summer, hiking/running local sand dunes with a weight vest, and it made all the difference. I can keep a pretty decent pace for a whole moto, which makes all the difference for the fun factor.

Keep at it and take your time getting those muscles back. STRETCH a lot lol.. It's so nice to be back on a bike again giving me something to train for, and maybe slow down the aging process..!

I just got the right springs for my KX250 and seeing as how I had to jump up 4 spring rates I haven't been riding much due to the nature of the bike being scary as hell to ride fast with suspension as soft as it was.
As of today it's done and I cant fookin wait to ride! E-Town has been at the top of my list for a while....we rented the MMX sand track a year ago and it was one of the best days I've ever had on a dirtbike.
All my buddies have become all talk pussies and wont moto anymore ..... let me know when you guys are going to E-Town I'd like to make a trip out there.

I lived that exact scenario then and got back riding for a few years and had the best time of my life again and then struggles from some internal bleeding issues due to an allergy that has had me off for awhile again. It is so depressing. I sold my15 crf 450 and feel good enough to ride again but it doesn't help that my riding buddy for 30 years just passed and our local track FTT shut down and my buddy sold his private track. I was going to them 2 to 4 days a week, it was like a dream it was so fun. Hoping to get back before 74family fun park goes away too. Hope it never does and seems like it's doing great. I used to ride it a bunch before it ever opened to the public.
