When did it become cool for MX stars to ride without helmets @joshhansen100 ? It shouldn't be on your website @racerxonline #dumb

Is he talking about the clip of Hanny doing a wheelie in his video edit?? I agree it's not cool and could set a bad example but RacerX shouldn't take on that responsibility for a 10 second clip in a video.

It varies state to state...

In most states it's illegal. Last time I checked, I think it was legal to ride without a helmet in 3 states. Of course, he was riding without a helmet on the street on a non-street legal bike, doing a wheelie. So once you've broken two laws, what's the harm in a 3rd?

Honestly I think Feld should require all the guys in opening ceremonies of Supercross to have helmets on as well. There are thousands of kids watching, Most local tracks require you to have a helmet on at all times so lets set a good example here..

Because of course its not the parents responsibility to make sure their kids are wearing safety equipment when riding...

Kind of a bitch move, chill the fuck out already. If he wants to do it, let him do it. If your kid watches it then have a discussion afterward telling him that there are consequences to doing that.

Has nothing to do with the parents, more making the point that kids want to be like their idols.. ie. Nike and #BELIKEMIKE

I think its up to him, and if a kid wants to copy him then thats their choice, but lets hope they're not stupid enough to

Townley needs to stop whining. I bet he gets really pissed when he watches Moto XXX or one of the Crusty films.

Pennsylvania repealed our helmet law quite a few years ago. I've rode my Harley when I had one without sometimes. I figured if someone texting crushed me it wouldn't help anyway.
But on the dirt I always wear one cause I'm a bit of a maniac on a dirt bike.

Yep. No doubt kids want to be like their idols. I wanted a pair of Jordan's so bad back in 3rd grade. I just knew they would make me a better basketball player, so I talked my dad into getting me a pair. After we bought them, he took me to the ball court and I was pumped. Put on my new shoes and he said, "They look cool, now dunk the damn ball." I tried about 3 times, then he said, "We learn anything today?" Then we took the shoes back and I picked out a pair that I actually liked.

Moral of the story, it's the parents responsibility to make sure the child knows better than to try and imitate their idols. What's the difference in going to a SX and seeing JS7 hit a triple vs not wearing a helmet in opening ceremonies? Both are a bad idea for a kid to imitate, yet no one's complaining that the jumps are to big.

BT101 is correct that it's not cool to ride without a helmet.
Perfect opportunity to discuss with the kids to "not be like Hanny" or anyone else riding without a helmet.
If my boy is ever caught riding without a helmet he will lose the privilege of riding for quite a while, he
did it once.Lesson learned.

It's not smart to not wear safety equipment but RacerX isn't the safety police so why bitch at them?

Somebody should have mentioned to Townley that dirt bikes are dangerous and he should stay away from them

Like BELL HELMETS slogan awhile back, If you have a $10.00 head wear a $10.00 Helmet, so I guess Hansen knows what his head is worth? LOL

Ben's allowed his opinion.

Some magazines (and web sites) might refuse to run an ad based on content. Hi-Torque used to do it all the time (think blacked-out Xtreme t-shirt designs). I look at the Shift ad as an image thing. It's not a sanctioned event, etc.

Maybe BT101 watched the video and then had the discussion with his kid. Maybe he wasn't calling for legislation that would put Hanny in jail. Maybe he wasn't asking for anyone to parent for him. Maybe he was just using his star power and an appropriate platform to call out (and maybe spark a discussion) some less than smart moves. Doesn't seem like he beat on anyone too bad. Like it or not, plenty of impressionable minds look at Hanny and racerx and imitate. Maybe BT101 is just trying to remind a couple people of that.

All I know is that when I was growing up, I often decided to not wear a helmet because I saw my favorite pro without one. NOT. Give me a break.

Point being, if you're dumb enough to not wear a helmet, should you really be reproducing anyways?

But did it surprise you and get your attention? That's their goal.

You have to admit that BT is a crybaby. or don't you remember when a certain mag didn't have BT as one of the championship favorites he then threw a hissy fit and refused to talk to them at all. Gee not picking BT to win a championship is a no brainer.

Obviously I FROWN on the no helmet segment but... I'm sure ALOT of riders/racers on this board, BEN INCLUDED, have all been seriously hurt WEARING a helmet??? I've broken my back and was probably closer to paralysis than I sure would have liked!

Should we conclude riding dirt bikes as overly dangerous, they are, and outlaw them?

Stupid is as stupid does and after seeing that video... no matter how old I am/was I'd still always wear my helmet. It's just the smart thing to do Wink

Not a big J. Hansen fan but some parts of that video is most definitely gnar...
