True that.

No doubt they could benefit from some new technology tho. I will say I'm at least happy they stopped after '06. That bike, which is obviously the same platform as now, is one helluva dirtbike.

Very cool.

Has there ever been a bigger transformation than from the 1995 to 1996 bikes? The 1995 bike was fugly.

Same for me! Even tho mine's a "2009" same damn thing, and i wouldn't trade it for any other stock choice out there.

Yeah for sure. That was when they started to look more 90's cool.

I've only owned two YZ250s (86 & 02). The '86 was terrible and the '02 was one of the best bikes ever built. IMO of course.
Funny thing is I remember selling it at the end of '03 thinking, "there is definitely a plastic update coming next year and I don't want to be stuck with the old roach that nobody will buy." It's still the same almost 10 years later! Should have just kept her.

Why would they update the plastic in 2003 when they did some pretty major plastic updating in 2002?

My brother had a '79. It was a beast. He could smoke my '79 RM250 in a drag race. On the track we were pretty even.

Slap a Noleen-360 kit in that bad boy and you would be styling big time. Smile

I had one of these. Installed a Noleen base valve kit and some different springs up front and chopped 100mm out of the silencer. Fucker ripped. Bottom end and midrange monster. Once it signed off though it felt like someone tossed an anchor. No overrev. RaceTech made a linkage roadrace type shifter that was supposed to help with the 2nd-3rd gear upshift but it didn't help. Had to use full clutch or back off the throttle for that one.
