Awesome Utah Hare Scramble battle

Here is a video of a battle for the lead at a Hare Scramble in Knoll's Utah. Josh Knight (former ISDE gold medalist, and NHHA 250 pro winner) is on the KTM 250 XC and Daemon Woolslayer (several NHHA 250 pro podiums-but I'm not sure if he's won an overall yet...but he's still young) on the Yamaha 250FX. This is the last loop of the race.

Battle starts at about 6:30...and goes to about the end of the video...they must have passed each other 10 times while battling through lappers. First pass is at 11:30...Watch Daemon send it at 18:31, and a crazy close call at 20:06.

Daemon eventually crashed, just about the end of video...and Josh went on to win...but they were all of about 30 seconds apart the entire race up to that point.

The video doesn't do justice to just how big those whoops are...

It takes big balls to ride like that.

The KTM had way more top end on those open straights.

That pass at 20:06 was sketchy AF! that is some insane topped out stuff, I wonder what an average speed is for those guys? Lots of standing and pumping in the whoops, they have to be in solid condition. They obviously know the course, and there are a variety of line choices and they launch the few jumps. Still looking for a corner Smile

Respect.

I've been lapped by Josh on more than one occasion and it is always unbelievable how fast the expert/pro line is out there. Here I am feeling all good at how "fast" I'm going and then they pass me and I want to go park my bike. Great stuff.

Kudos to that Daemon fella...that blue bike was dancing all over but he just kept it pinned. He didn't appear to be a petite size either....like me.

Josh's comment is pretty funny when Daemon goes huge!!! Was this a URSA race or NHHA race?

This is lap 3 of a 25.4 mile loop, so they had learned some of the course. I paced the jump off afterward and Daemon went at least 100 ft. The video does not do justice how fast he had to be going over the rough course in order to jump that far. It is super chopped and then whooped leading up to it.

They were averaging about 45 mph per loop, definitely one of the faster courses out there.

That’s insane. I don’t know how they see course markers at that speed.

i've always loved the Knolls races and even scored a top 10 overall, 3rd open ex, years ago. Josh is absolutely flying on that smoker. big props to Woolslayer, bigger kid and he slays it. watching the vid with him in the picture reminded me of racing Headman back in the day.

cool vid, thanks for sharing Titan

Our harescrambles dont look anything like that. Looks like a lot of fun though. I would love to try one of these races.

Do you know if Daemon crashed? I heard that was the case, but wasn't for sure (I missed the race).

I assume so but don't know for sure. They didn't have much more of the loop left and Josh had a healthy lead at the finish.

I was thinking the same thing. Compared to races around there that is like drag racing on dirt bikes.

Still awesome to watch though.

Wow! I grew up in Utah and miss the desert riding out there. Now I'm in Georgia and the single track with the tight trees feel so narrow.
