Hey Aussies,

Curios what's going on with the Australian second hand market for dirt bikes at the moment?
Got my 2011 YZ125 for $2,100.00 a year or so ago and now seeing the same models going for $4,000.00+???
2001's going for $3,300.00 as well?

Reckon it's travel restrictions or just no new stock coming in?

Is this also the case in the US at the moment?

Cheers.

I dunno, but it's fucking whack. Think it might be the nuffies getting covid payments driving the prices up.

It seems like the cool thing to do is a mid 00's resto. Maybe in 18 months time we'll all be about to buy some cheap restored 2 strokes once the disposable income is gone and people try to recoup some money

Heard from a guy in a shop that covid payments are actually a small portion of the sales at the moment. A lot of sales are because people are not spending money on holidays and stuff like that.
Its crazy, cant buy a new bike anywhere at the moment, depending on what you want of course. There is not much around second hand either. I bought my 2020 KTM just before covid hit. Got it for a great price and got extras thrown in because of the KTM dollars they threw in to clear the 2020 models. I'm glad i got the bike when i did because there is nothing now.

Haven't been able to get out much lately due to.. life/work. Wondering if it's worth selling the YZ125 now and hoping the prices will drop again?
I guess it's like the stock market though, Never know if the prices are going to drop again any time soon.
Unless someone has some inside trading advice? Wink

The rules around accessing superannuation have been changed and many are taking advantage to withdraw up to 10K which is driving it.
There are also a lot of other government hardship, layoff, childcare cash payouts going also related to Covid.

People who are locked down want hobby restorations so that as well.

Over here in the states used 110’s with no title or registration are going for $3k plus and dealerships are completely wiped out of MX bikes.

It's supply and demand. People can no longer travel and spend the money on holidays so they are buying bikes, caravans, jet ski's etc. Looking on bikesales.com there was only 1 yz250 listed the other day and it was a dealer advertising a new bike, there were no second hand ones at all.

We went to QMP on Sunday and it was absolutely packed. Probably 50-100 campsites and by 10am the pit area was packed. Everyone seems to be spending money on hobbies they can do on their own.

If you sell now you will likely get a good price but I can't see the price of bikes coming down for a while yet.

On a side note, I was talking to a guy today who does press stuff for Yamaha, apparently Yamaha Australia didn't order enough stock and their warehouse is looking pretty bare

I have a JR50 and just looked them up some are listed at over 2k Australian that’s just nuts....
I bought a TC85 4 months ago for 3.3k now they are listed at over 6 for what I got.
It’s a sellers market I spent all day looking for a new or second hand te150i or te250i I got cash ready but I can’t find a single bike.
Listed 4 bikes on marketplace and I’m getting smashed with enquiries.

Would it be legal to import used bikes in a container. I can go to baltimore pd and buy the whole lot of recovered 12 oclock boyz stolen bikes and ship em down to you by container load. You will need a whole lot of back tires though.

Go for it, its worth it.
You’ll be surprised how many people ARENT doing this.
My buddy sends 50 sea doos, trailers, harleys, kmc wheels there every other year.
Not as hard as you think, sometimes its not what you know its who you know.
Try networking at the auctions then deal directly with someone.
