And that's why you use motorcycle specific oil.
Rotella T4 was the choice of KTM's teams for years and a lot of teams have used it at one point or another for practice lubricants. I actually don't know any that used T6, T4 has been the version used for years.

They removed the zinc (ZDDP) and changed the formula a year or so ago.... it’s complete garbage now. It’s a shame because it was a go-to for years.

I have always used regular rotella if it touched clutches. I used to use the t6 on the engine side of Honda's but that is it. I thought rekluse endorsed the regular T4, not the T6.

If anything can destroy a clutch it has to be one of those heavy-ass snow tracks.

Both rotella containers, t4 & t6 still state they are JASO MA & MA2 rated... That's means ok for wet clutch...This came up in another thread a while back, that they changed the T4 formula, the white container...I thought the T6 was still ok to use in wet clutch applications as it states on the back of the container. On a side note, I have 90 hrs on my Ktm 450 FE using the T6, no issues at all....

I’ve been running T4 without any issues, did rekluse say anything about T4?

Track kit played a role I bet. I had one and killed a clutch in a winter. 250sx nothing but wfo.

For T6 Synth 5w40 Actually it is the opposite from what Shell told me. It still has both Jaso certs, but it is no longer spec'ed for gasoline engines due to ZDDP, which contaminates cats.

T4 is the Dino Oil. Delo Dino and 5w40 Synth has no Jaso MA certs that I know of. It may work fine though.

And the above Dude, Yah, those put way more stress on a clutch than a rear wheel.
I don't think Jaso MA certs cover clutch grab when turning a track compared to a tire.

I have the new bottles of T6 in many bikes, no issues.

I've used the 15-40 LE, it's a Dino oil with zinc. Basically Chevron's version of Shell's Rotella t4

Ran 11 Gallons of T4 through my Husky last year with a full Rekluse EXP. No problems here.

So at this point, is the facebook post of little to no concern? I just got a 17, and after break in I was going to use t6. This is my first Honda without separate engine and trans oil. I've put over 200 hours on my 07 with t6 and not one sign of failed lubrication.

I experienced this & a very weird clutch feel when i tried rotella after everyone on here raved about it. Ill never put that garbage in my bikes again. Maxima or amsoil full synthetic dirtbike oil is by far the best ive found. Hell even $5 suzuki oil provides a better clutch feel than rotella.

I been using belray Esther full synthetic innmy
Husky. Real Expensive. But my bike only takes 1.1L at a time. seems to be real good stuff. Never got on the rotella train. Seems to be just as mixed review as what to mix gas at for a 2 stroke.

I loved the old bottle T4. $12 a gallon at WM worked with my shoestring budget nicely. I could change my oil and ride my bike for awhile before the shifting started too feel a little "notchy", so I could kinda feel when It was time to change it again. Then they changed the bottle. Whatever is in that new bottle gives my bike that "notchy" feeling almost immediately, so I tried the T6, also "notchy". My shoestring budget took a big hit but I now run motorcycle specific oil. Who knows, maybe its all in my head. I just wish I could get some of the old bottle T4.

T6:
OEM Specifications and Approvals for Shell ROTELLA® T6 full synthetic heavy duty engine oil
API: CK-4, CJ-4, CI-4 PLUS, CI-4, CH-4
ACEA E9; JASO DH-2; Cummins CES 20086; Volvo VDS-4.5; Detroit Fluid Specification (DFS) 93K222, Caterpillar ECF-2/ECF-3, MAN M3575, JASO MA/MA2, Allison TES 439, MB-Approval 228.31
No JASO MA rating because of a 1.2% Ash content, which is the limit for the MA rating.

T4: 15w40
CK-4, CJ-4, CI-4 Plus, CI-4, CH-4; ACEA E9; JASO DH-2, MA, MA2; Caterpillar ECF-2, ECF-3; Cummins CES 20086, 81; Detroit Fluids Specification (DFS) 93K222, 93K218; Deutz DQC III-10 LA; MACK EO-S 4.5, EO-O Premium Plus; MAN M3575; MB-Approval 228.31; MTU Category 2.1; Allison TES-439; Volvo VDS-4.5, VDS-4
It has both JASO MA and MA2, the 10w30 T4 doesn't have the MA rating.

T5:
Neither 15w40 or 10w30 have the MA rating.

Looks like spec wise T4 15w40 is the only one that has the MA rating. I run T6 or T4 depending on which one I have on the self when I'm changing the oil (I run the T6 in my TDI). Never had any problems on my Maxim X or dirt bikes. Funny people always have to jump in and say motorcycle specific oil, the only oil I've ever had gel up on me was simi synthetic belray 4 stroke oil... I ride in deep sand often in ambient temps above 100°. The rotella oils are made for turbos, so they have good oxidation resistance.

TECHNICAL BULLETIN
What is the difference between JASO MA/MA1 and JASO MB?
Issue: February 2015
What does the JASO MA and JASO MA2 Standard Mean?
In 1998 the Japanese Automotive Standards Organization (or JASO for short) developed a grading system for motorcycle oils.
The grading system measured (amongst other things) an oils ability to resist clutch friction (or slippage), protection offered against engine wear and pitting in the gear box.
Up to 1998 car oils had been used as the base for many motorcycle oils. As car technology evolved over the years the oils that cars needed changed and additives were added that weren’t good for motorcycle engines (especially motorbike clutches and gearboxes, mainly due to the fact that, unlike most motorcycles, cars use a separate oil for the gearbox).
Car oils had been blended using more and more friction modifiers, which, although good for cars, wasn’t too good for motorcycles as these modifiers can cause clutches to slip at higher revs and gearbox pitting.

JASO introduced 2 ratings for 4 stroke motorcycle oils:
JASO MA – This was the standard for single unit engines where the wet clutch, gearbox and engine used the same oil.
JASO-MA oils don’t contain friction modifiers.
JASO MB – This lower standard was for bikes that use separate oils for the engine, clutch and gearbox (e.g Harley
Davidson’s and BMW’s).

You sure it was T4 they were using? Rotella T was replaced by T4 somewhat recently when the new oil standards came out. Rotella T is what I know Rekluse recommended for a long time.

I think most of you are referring to Rotella T, not T4. T was replaced somewhat recently by T4, which is a different formula.

T4 10w30 is onmy Jaso DH2 rated. It is a mileage oil.
T4 15w40 and T6 5w40 are all Jaso DH2 MA MA2

T5 10w30 semi synth are no go. Again formulated for mileage.

Your post about T6 is bs. It clearly shows all Jaso ratings.
