At 13 I bought my 1st bike a 1972 CZ 250 I remember just staring at in the garage every night I kept thinking it was a dream. Then it was my 1st race at Carlsbad.
The best time for me was 1975 at 16. I was on my 3rd bike, a 74 125 Elsinore. in 6 months I went from novice to intermediate to expert racing Ascot, Irwindale and OCIR.
I miss Ascot. Went there often when I lived in So Cal.

When I used to race. 1991-2004 Age 23 thru 37. I can’t do it any more because of lingering injuries and too many responsibilities. I miss those days so bad.

right now at 30 years old. I can now afford current model bikes, I have the knowledge and tools to work on my bike myself, and I recently purchased my first new truck. My old truck was my first car and it wasn't very reliable as it got older so I would shy away from going to different tracks. Also vet racing is much more enjoyable.

Had a damn good time today riding Glen Helen with my son and I’ll be 52 in a couple weeks. It was his first time there and the both of us being from Louisiana, it was a magical moment. Other than that I would say every day is my favorite as I still get to enjoy it and plan to as long as I am physically able.

Right now. A race weekend consists of camping out with my friends and family at the track. Days filled with racing and nights filled with relaxing times spent by a fire. Although he has been resistant up to this point, my seven year old finally caught the bug last week and spent all day Sunday zooming around the pit bike track at Wabash Cannonball Motorcycle Club. Can’t ask for much more than that.

Lots of cool stories in this thread! With as much division as there is in the world right now, we Vitards all have at least that one common interest....

Good Call Rupert! Smile

The early to mid 70s for me. At the boom of MX in the states. It was relatively cheap for the day and the tracks were super fun but safe.

My 73 TM250 Suzuki. Won a lot on that bike from 73 - 75 in NC.

My riding has gone through four phases, MOTO, Off-Road, AMA Dual Sport and ADV riding.

Speed wise in moto, I peaked at around age 20. Favorite tracks were Interstate in OKC, that track was rough the first year it was open, the day track at 59th and Douglas in OKC, and Lake Whitney TX. Most fun years was probably my late 20s early 30s.

My best memories are from off-road. More travel was involved and they were all weekend long events. As far as participating, I like the off-road scene better also, as I like to go fast and the off-road events in OK in the 90s were pretty fast courses. Western OK was the closest I ever got to being a desert racer.

These days I mostly ride a KTM 950 ADV. I ride dirt roads and play rally racer. I can leave from my garage, do a 250 mile day, come home and set the bike in the corner until next time.

I still love Moto. Outdoor MX is my favorite sport to follow and watch. I usually attend one or tow outdoor nationals every year. Last two Supercross races I went too the drunk people ruined the experience, I now watch those from home.

Right now, at age 60. Hope to go another 15years like Lars Larson, Pierre Karsmakers, Gary Jones etc. I never had enough money to really do MX when I was young and my parents were against it, so I rode mostly rough powerlines, abandoned strip mines, old logging trails etc. near my house on a '76 Penton 250, then an '82 Husky 250. Had a turn track right down the road, and later a racer buddy who took me practicing at some area tracks.

Now I can finally be the moto-dad to myself I never had. 3 bikes (two 450s and a 150 2T), lots of local tracks and great riding buddies. Better late than ever in my case. .

I enjoyed my early 20’s. Rode and raced lots. Spent Time traveling and racing with friends. By my 30, and 40’s I dint ride as often as when young but I think some skill may have increased. My later 40’s where great stayed safe until almost 3 months ago . Still love it but hope to become healthy soon and ride again if possible. The next day seems better than the last day at the track when we get old!

Most successful was at 19, and then 26. The best and most enjoyable is anytime I get on a bike. It’s just plain fun to ride a dirt scoot. No matter the age, CCs, weather, location. That’s my answer and it’s been the same for over 50 years. 👍😁

At 10 years old. This was in the Soviet era, when everybody, who had some will, and balls, could step to some Soviet MX club (however, you had to know someone, but in my case I didn't. Just had a passion, balls, and club address), and to them was given the opportunity to start with motocross. But holy cow, those bikes.
Anyway, your parents had to have some serious money (only possibility was illegally earned at the time) to do some serious development for those crapy 50cc Riga mx bikes, and mine didn't have some. The only thing we could know about the world mx scene, where some posters, which someone had smuggled from behind the Iron curtaini in the club wall, and those posters were more expensive than beginners 50cc bikes Smile
But I had a passion to mx, that continues to this day. Tried to start racing again in my 30's, but that was a time when Estonia get our indenpendent back, and again, money was the issue+ i think the KTM 525 for the fresh start also wasn't the best choice.. Had some sucsees in b class, and then i quit. From then on, I'm just a vital keyboard warrior

For me, it's right now. I've ridden since I was 9 years old (28 now) and I only ever rode trails, until last summer. I was kind of "over" riding and didn't find it fun anymore. So, to change things up, a buddy of mine invited me to go riding on a friend's private track, with permission of course. That day reignited my love of dirtbikes.
Then to add to it, in February my wife let me buy a new bike (2020 kx250), with the promise that she could have my old bike (2005 rm125) and that I would take her out riding more. She has been riding since she was 5 or 6 and had kind of lost interest too, but saw that I had fallen back in love with it and wanted to feel that love for riding again as well. So I got the new bike and took her to the track with me, and it reignited her passion too.
Honestly riding with my wife once a week or every other week all summer has been one best things I've experienced in my life. On top of that it has strengthened our relationship exponentially.
For those who read, sorry for the bad grammar!

1. Picture of both of us, ignore the stache. It was a joke.
2. My wife jumping for the first time. Super proud.
3 & 4. Her on 10/31/20

WOW...pretty much all the time! Lets see the 70's were awesome, saw my first pro race at Unadilla, and saw "The Man" in action. Saw this unknown kid Hannah (to me at that time) waxing the pros at Mexico, NY, and then right in my backyard Broome-Tioga becomes a national track! In the 80's I got more into racing (and the associated partying), and by mid 80's I was a pretty sold top 5 250B rider. Quit riding for a while, but did manage to see Stanton, Ward and MXKied smoke the Euro's at Gaildorf. Got back into riding again in the 90's, raced some senior class events with limited success, but had a lot of fun as many old friends were back into riding. Hit all the nats I could drive to (Dilla, Budds, Southwick and Broome). Finally bought a new bike in 2000, and was able to live a dream when I had a chance to ride the Parts Unlimited Ride Day (remember those!) at Unadilla in 02 - major goose bumps hitting the track. Through out all this I was always taking pictures, then in 2010 I got to do it from inside the fences, what a trip! Managed to shoot Unadilla and Southwick for a few years, and even was on the floor shooting at Toronto and Metlife a few times, trust me the TV does not do it justice! Now at the urging of may Vital members it looks like I will be back in the saddle next spring.
So Rup - to answer your question, I always had (and hope to continue) my best times in Motocross!

Yup, that's Jeff,it looks like Rup's photo is from about 2005 or 2006, it might be his dad with him in the photo.

I was thinking 2002-2003, because that's when I met Jeff, Star Racing in it's infancy.

Everything post my last ambulance ride. About 10 years ago. I finally quit riding like my hair was on fire and started riding within myself and now I enjoy it so much more. Actually my race results improved because I quit making so many mistakes. Everything changed for me and my weekends. I no longer have anything to prove and just enjoy the ride and my day. Wish I had figured this out decades ago but it’s never to late.
