According to WP40 if you're in the LCQ you're a spode. Check RacerX Open Mic.

"Yeah, I had to go to the LCQ which I hate doing and riding with spodes"

Thoughts?

I think he saying there are some(not all are) "spodes" that he doesn't like riding with in the LCQ.
He is certainly entitled to his opinion.

After 2 top 5s back to back, I think he can officially call the regular herd in the LCQ spodes... Isn't that a right you earn?

Flip side of the coin, I doubt any factory rider would have referred to anybody on the gate as a spode.

I am not fast enough to make a 450 LCQ. What do you call people below the LCQ??
2/10/2014 12:01pm
To answer the thread title - depends who I'm on the track with. I guess compared to Weston a lot of those lcq riders might be considered spodes; and most of us ordinary people would be considered spodes compared to those spodes. It's not something I'd personally say (even if I were that fast) but each to their own I guess.

sheesh...if the riders in the 450 LCQ are spodes...I hate to know what he considers the rest of us weekend warriors.... Smile

I'm sure it was a tongue in cheek sarcastic remark...and reading it in print doesn't convey that at all.

But I will say, that's no worse than the stuff I've heard MANY front runners (RC comes to mind specifically) say about lappers in the frikkin main event...

Listen, I was watching the LCQ's on Saturday night, with a box of triscuits, sliced up pepperoni, and cheddar cheese thinking to myself that those guys out there sure looked like some squids. Certainly didn't think they were "Spodes" though.

Think the top 4 that were almost 30 seconds in front of him call him a spode? Doubtful.... maybe he'll find some class, with his speed.

Way back when the A riders we practiced with referred to us as squirrels and squids, I think that is below spode.

Hell ya! If I was in the LCQ I'd be cross jumping and casing stuff like a BOSS.
Then I'd finish it off with a one hander over the finish line. NFG

Get a life and stop hanging on to every word a rider says. Not everything is meant in a malicious classless manner. I'm sure he calls him self a Spode more often than not.

Well, you're right that not everything is meant maliciously...this could be a reason why he isn't getting any love from factory teams. He certainly has the speed to have a ride. But this isn't his first poor choice of words as I can recall. On a factory/professional level, your word choice can be just as important (or more so) than results. Most popular personalities that represent companies are very cautious in their word choices so they don't "offend" anyone. Or at the very least not offer an open opportunity to offend a large group. By calling other competitors "spodes" because they're in the LCQ, also doesn't show a great deal of respect for his competition.

Personality matters. Especially at the professional level when it comes to sponsorship.

A soon as I saw that I knew someone would complain on Vital.

This shit is getting ridiculous. People say things now that would get them laughed out of town before the Internet.

What if me mean it maliciously, so what? He's an effing dirt bike racer not a politician.

I agree with you. He's free to say whatever he wants to say. Personally, the comment doesn't bother me. But everyone around this place talks about him and how he doesn't have a factory ride but should. Well, comments like this make it pretty easy to see why. As factory riders, there's more than results that come into play in deciding who gets a ride and who doesn't. Without filtering his comments a bit, maybe he's actually harming his chance of a ride more than helping them?

Just random thoughts...

1. I am getting old.

2. I am loosing my hair.

3. I am becoming a Spode.

4. Beats the alternative of NOT riding and racing.

Cool

Yes...I am.

That being said, watch at Dallas for karma to make WP ride the LCQ and not qualify because a "spode" punts him off the track! Whistling

Entirely different set of circumstances for Rick Johnon's speech. The riders were blatantly cheating to avoid the AMA's attempt at a change to the qualification format. These riders were clearly not riding to the level they should have.

WP didn't put his best foot forward with that comment. I personally don't have a horse in this race as I don't like or dislike the guy. But from a marketing point of view, and that's what sponsorship comes down to...I can see why it would cause an issue. Can he recover from it? Sure, he can. I have no doubt. But he needs to be putting that "good guy" vibe out every weekend. Keep in mind too that this isn't his first time being spoken of with regard to the types of comments he's made.
