Are people actually buying these over price used 125's?

Picked this up for $600 the other day
You just have to be on the lookout!
Bought about $400 in parts for it and plan to sell it for around $2000-2400 when I finish with it. It is a sellers market!

I bought this one a few years ago in great shape on Vital. I even bought a bunch of parts from another member here and modded it it up some. The idea was to make my son a nice 125 ripper that I could occasionally scream around the track on myself. We never rode it much. Now I'm looking to get rid of it. It's been advertised locally for $2,200 with no real hits besides trades for four-wheelers.

It's got Showa suspension, the 2006 air box/boot, and a Keihin air striker carb. It's a blast. We just don't ride the track much anymore.

One thing worth considering as well-I specifically looked for a bike that wasn't rebuilt. Unless it was owned by someone I know and trust (or one of the folks here whose reputation precedes them), I don't trust others' mechanical skills. As a result, I'd just be tearing the whole thing apart anyway. I was able to find my '02 CR250, which looked awful but clearly had very low time and had never had a wrench on the engine (hell, even the paint marks on the preload rings hadn't been touched). Yes, I had to deal with what results when a bike sits (some seal degradation, some lack of care) but I will know that some ham-fisted guy didn't force something together inside the engine.
My main piece of advice would be to do your research on parts availability. Had I done so, I'd have bought a later model which has a few more parts available.

Yeah it is an '03, i mentioned it a few posts after haha. $1460 is all she books for. I actually bought it off a member here and did not know it until later. '03's Had the old style brake routing, old style fork lugs, oddball pipe mounting, older style dog bone linkage, and a few other things. It is kind of the red headed step child of the last generation of KX's haha

Ok, im guilty as charged.. I have my 05 Kx 125 on CL for 3500 and have no doubt by Xmas it will have a new home, it might mean i come down to 3000 but folks around here eat these little guys up (they are popular like the cheerleader dating High School QB )

I bought any 06 yz 125 in SF bay for $1400 2 years ago, rebuilt it until i had about $2500 in it total, rode the piss out of it for a year and a half or so including racing mammoth, sold to a guy in the bay for $2400. So i don't think it is really that tough of a market

I know this thread is about 125s, but just to go with the 2t theme, I got this 250 for $2k. Just need to be scanning every day for a deal.

I really don't think the prices are too far out of line. New bikes are getting more expensive and two strokes will only become harder and harder to find. With that said I recently sold my 2006 yz125 for $2100. I paid $1700 for it back in 2011.
Ended up finding a 2007 CR125 for $2000, and put about $400 into it to get it "ride able". Here is a pic of my YZ the day I sold it for a reference, bike also had a 139 kit on it.

Just picked up what you are describing last weekend for 2k. Throwing a top end, chain, and air filter in and it'll be perfect Wink

Bought this 07 CR125 for $1900. Now probably have about $4000 in it bike included lol. Haven't had this much fun on any other bike in a long time! Getting the motor done at JM racing tomorrow.

Yaa but a nice set of excel rims with nice new hubs and spokes is easily $1,300 right there. I called excel about a year ago to get a price check on a complete wheel set with the suzuki yellow rims and it was about $1,400, without tires lol

I bought two 03 CR125s (from two different people, at different ends of Australia) for 900 AUD each. Probably about 600-700 USD. Parted one out on eBay and completely rebuilt the other (like, literally everything except the head bearings).

Recently bought an 03 CR250 (blown barrel) and an 09 CRF450 (blown transmission) as a donor bike. Did a fork swap and currently the total for that project is about $3700 but the bike has a brand new engine basically. Once I sell more parts the total cost should be around 3k for a fresh bike.

Annoyingly, you just need to watch out for deals. As I only buy Hondas right now I have heaps of small parts that together would cost a lot but aren't really sellable either. Great for buying beat up bikes!

A few years back when AUD and USD was equal you could make a mint on fixing up bikes. Nowadays you have to be smart about how you do it.

As is, yes that's overpriced. But it's not an 01' (can tell by the suspension/front brake routing/rear brake with integrated reservoir) and can probably be haggled down to about $800; much closer to restore pricing. The big question is what the registration/title/ownership status is...

Bought this 04 YZ125 back in April for $1300. Previous owner blew it up and had to get a new jug and top end. He then wrecked and broke his leg so he decided to sell it. It needed some TLC but it's not terrible.

I put about $300 into it so far including new radiators, levers, clutch cable, bars and sone othe odds and ends.

Also picked up a blown 00 yz 250 a few years ago that I completely tore apart to rebuild. I have $350 into that plus now accumulating parts. I want to do a MC Chapparel replica with the 250 and a YoT with the 125.

They're over-priced. I sold a 2001 CR250 in 2008 for 1100 dollars (I was emigrating and needed to get rid of it at the last minute). It needed a few things doing to it (maybe 500 dollars worth) but it was basically solid.

Given the second hand prices nowadays, I'd probably just buy a new YZ125 and stick a 144 kit on it. The YZ144 I rode was an awesome machine.

I just can't ride 4 strokes, I was open minded to them and tried quite a few, but they suck around 50% of the enjoyment out of the sport for me. The weight, the noise, the engine braking, it all just feels wrong - I'd actually be prepared to pay significantly more for a new 2 stroke compared to a thumper, the fact they're even slightly cheaper is fine with me.
