Are Bells noticeably smaller than 6D’s?

So full disclosure I have a big head and wear an XL but I just got my new 6D ATR2 today and good lord this thing is huge. I’m coming from a Fox V1 and the Fox is def smaller.

I was torn between the 6D and a Moto 9 flex and if the flex is noticeably smaller than I may switch and try it.

What do you guys think?

Sorry I should've clarified. I'm talking about the appearance of the helmet in general, not the actual fit of the helmet.

6D’s are larger compared to any other helmet from what I’ve noticed.

It's probably stupid but I'm not trying to ride around looking like a bobble head lol

I feel like it’s the front of the 6D’s that give them a bulky look. The mouth piece area is pretty big. I’ve never really thought they looked huge though, at least not seeing people wearing them while riding. I don’t think you’ll be looking like a bobble head haha.

I gotta add a quick note, I had a pretty good crash at AX this past weekend. I cross rutted on a double, bounced off the landing and slammed myself head first into the face of the next jump. I don’t know if the results would’ve been different in a different helmet, but I was impressed that I didn’t get knocked out in the crash.

Yes, Bell's are noticeably smaller and narrower than a 6D for sure, but like aeffertz said, any helmet has a smaller appearance compared to a 6D especially when you go up in size to those big XL+ sizes. The double EPS liner and technology with the ODS system is the main factor.

Why even worry about what you look like? Buy the helmet you want. It's not like 6D helmet's are unpopular. If it feels weird than go with the smaller helmet. If you can't notice it, who cares.

Buy what you want.

I hear you on this. The 6D is pretty large and can take some getting used to. I have both and can snap a side by side if you want......you will have to send me money via paypal.

I bought a large 6D according to the sizing chart and the fit is too right. Wasted quite a bit of money on that as the XL pads don’t fit in the large shell.

Yeah i agree with you. Everyone cares what they look like to a certain extent though, even if they don't want to admit it.

I have both. I prefer the Bell, but have no issues wearing the 6D when i do. The 6D is bigger, but it isnt noticeable wearing it. Mine are both XL's as well. Main reason i wear the Bell more often is the feel. The 6D takes some getting used to, i usually wear it when im washing the Bell

That is interesting, i have both in size M and the difference is huge in that size. The 6D weighs about 200g more and is way larger, clearly noticeable while i ride.

I have both and prefer the feel and look of the Bell. Something I noticed is that the headliner in the Bell moto 9 flex is complete junk. Maybe they have upgraded it since I bought them (2 years ago) but it is beyond me how they could put such a thin and flimsy headliner in a premier helmet. The moto 9 headliner is 10x better and fits, so I plan to pick up a few of those. My vote is the moto 9, the flex isn’t worth the extra $.

Love my flex. Fits perfect. You can also switch the cheek pad for better fitment. It is a bit snugger, then my previous TLD. At first I didn't think I could get it on, then when I did.. my Lord was it the most comfortable helmet I've tried.

XXL fat head here...
I’ve been in the Bell for last 10+ years.
I just ordered a 6D/ FXR helmet to try out. It should be here next week...
But the Flex design is a considerable upgrade from the standard MIPS model. They both feel the same to me, I own a dozen of them, mostly the Flex model.

I had a feeling the 6D might be a little big with their technology taking up room between the outter shell and liner. But if it fits good on my head, it’ll be my new off-road helmet !
