This has been asked and answered more than once.

Not every person at the press conference is a media person or rider. There are family members, PR fluffers...and as an added bonus this season, the general public. They can buy a seat at the press conference as part of a VIP Experience.

Do I appreciate the time with the riders at the press conference, as well as what they do? Sure. Do I clap? No.
