Hey Guys
I was watching the Press conference from Tampa and the way it was conducted made me cringe. I just found it so weird that the guys made their entrance to a round of applause from the journalists (I think those were journalists) in the room. I can't think of any other serious sport doing this. I feel that if you start a press conf by forcing journalists in attendance to start the thing off by applauding, it just sets the tone for those typical boring-as shit answers with zero insight to what actually happened in the race. And I cant help feel bad for the journalists in the room that are there to report on the race, not cheering on the the riders.

I come from a Tennis background and maybe this just irked me because in Tennis journalist pride themselves on attending these things for professional reasons and not to come pet the podium guys. also it is something like professional pride to stay neutral and just report . Here's Roger for comparison :

so what do you guys think, should I STFU or is the cringe/feeling of unprofessional-ism real?

Steve Matthes said the exact same thing (believe weege agreed with him). Personally I don’t see the big deal, but do understand what you guys are on about. Also, moto is like the only sport I follow therefore only press conference I’ve seen.

It's embarrassing. But i think Feld sells spots for fans on the press conferences(amateur hour level 99), i guess that is why we get the applause's?

I sure do hope that no actual journalists take part in the applauding.

This is true. Feld isn't exactly a classy organization. They make the floor announcer Lurch literally yell at the start of each main for fs sake.

Is it even normal to call up athletes like this? I would think the athlete is given a time to arrive and when they do, they just go up front and sit where they are suppose to.

Awkward as hell. Would like to of been in the meeting at Feld where someone pitched this idea to his peers, and the peers agreed.

I thought Guy B. said that the clapping came from friends and family. Could be remembering that wrong.

Yep, they've already done thep odium. I don't get why they are "introducing" the riders. Just get them to sit down and crack-on with the questions. I rarely watch any of it as the answers are so generic

Maybe they should throw a curve ball at the next one and boo them all when they come out.

The riders and Blair acted like they were the losers for having to attend that deal!

He doesn’t do that anymore.

Also, DB (and I think Bowyer before) use to ask for a round of applause when introducing the riders. Matthes brought it up to him and he has since stopped but people are still applauding.

Are a large part of the journalist/photo hounds at SX fans of the sport/riders and that is why they are at SX and not some other sport?

No applause is better than a smattering of unenthusiastic claps when they come out. It's painful to watch.

250's from Tampa were even worse where Osborne and Ferrandis give a few half hearted claps when Forkner's name is called.

OMG I had somehow missed that "Hot Lap" thing, thanks for putting that up Peelout. GL and MC must have been put at gunpoint to do that crap.

Who invented clapping anyway? They could have at least given us maintenance manuals and operating Manuel’s when they invented it!
