The throttle stuck wide open and I am laying in the hospital with the same injuries as Chad reed!! What would cause this? Not breaking the bike in?

Thats why i always tear a bike down after purchase, and also safetywire atleast the throttle so it cant lift up from the carb/throttle and get stuck. http://t1.gstatic.com/images?q=tbn:ANd9GcRZpnqT8wlirmbrmXuRBJVyCw8-Q4u-… http://i303.photobucket.com/albums/nn160/WRGra/safety_wire_throttle_end…

Ditto. Never EVER ride a brand new bike without going over the entire bike, including greasing the shock linkage, steering head bearings, swingarm bearings, axles etc.

Hope you didnt get hurt too bad. Get well soon.

HOLY SHIT Denn! Are you being 100% serious right now? If you are.....dude please heal up. That has got to be a heart break and a half. I haven't heard of that happening to anyone in a very long time. I know with the older bikes it was something you heard about every once in a while. On these newer bikes......I don't think I have ever heard of anyone having an issue.

Either way.....doesn't matter.....hope you get to feeling better soon! Take care and keep us updated!

Sorry to hear this. The very first time I took out my '08 KTM 300, the throttle cable was pulled out of the carb and it was stuck wide-the-fuck-open when I fired it up. It's so damn easy to do on a two stroke. It amazes me no one has ever bothered to redesign those goddamn throttle cable assemblies. Makes no sense to me how easily they can get pulled out of the carb, especially if the cable gets caught up near the bars/triples. I had the same problem on my Montesa trials bike and once those things get revved up, the kill switch won't even kill them. I had to plug the exhaust. Nothing like a run away two stroke to get your heart racing.

This sounds like a brutal anti-climax. Heal fast.

Touch wood - have never had this happen, presume it all happens so fast you don't have time to rationalise, pull in clutch etc?

Really? This is quality Steve? I don't bust your balls much, but this is crap. You bitch about 2 stroke threads and now you can't help but gig a guy that's pretty jacked up on the 2 vs. 4?

That's crap.

That's a horrible way to go out man. I was almost killed by a poorly manufactured front street bike rim so I can relate.

Unfortunately, this is almost a 'common' issue. If you look around on ktmtalk you'll see that this has happened to many members and a stuck throttle killed a regular poster there about 7 months ago.

Motion Pro makes a throttle cable called the T3 that has the vinyl cable sheath hard attached to the metal adjusters at each end of the cable. So when you thread it into the carb and the throttle, a yank on the cable (usually caused by an errant branch) the cable does not pull out effectrively making the bike go full throttle.

Although, 2 strokes are praised for their simplicity, a dual cable throttle pull/ push like 4 strokes have, would be wise insurance and the manufacturers should just include it.

Get well, Bones heel and the bummerness fades but you still have a badass bike to look foward to . Hope you
heal up soon.

He said TM, not KTM. TM is an Italian brand.
