I was cruising around google maps today and came across this! I'm not from the area, so have no idea what this is. It almost looks like an automotive test facility where they could test top speed and road handling, which would make sense as to why it's in the middle on nowhere. Looks like the closest major city is California City. The interesting part is what looks to be an abandoned supercross and motocross track. What's the story with this place, is it still in operation, is it a factory test facility for someone like Honda who makes cars and bikes, or did I just stumble upon the Area 51 of moto?Laughing Thanks for any info, you can imagine how surprised i was when i found it, I'm just curious as to the back story.

There was a post in here the other day about the horribly bad 97 CR250...the thread had a test/review of the bike and I'm pretty sure for that article they rode the bike out there. Sure looked like it in the pics anyway.

Nice, thanks for the info guys! So it sounds like they still use the road section, I wonder why they don't use the offroad section anymore. That track seems like it would be fun to ride, sucks to see it waste away into nothing.Sad

Like a kid, I stay glued to the window anytime I fly. Between Texas and Ca. there are quite a few desert test facilities as well as moto tracks to be seen from the sky. Pretty cool....Smile

I see motocross tracks even where there isn't one . . . from planes, trains and automobiles

Threes & bushes on the track was something new! Sad to see that the mx/sx track is not in use anymore but the road track looks MINT! Woohoo

Road and MX tracks don't mix very well. Not an issue on the MX side, but a bunch of dust on a road course is a problem.

Operational costs:

Within the Company, the different divisions have to cover the expenses of their own test facilities. In this case, American Honda's motorcycle division was on the hook for a lot of $$$ that they haven't had since the Moto-Market-Collapse of '07/'08...

I've seen the car guys out there; but, I haven't seen Moto folks out there...in years.

I think they've had it up for sale since '11 and the bike guys haven't used it since...'10?
