Im gonna pick up a new 13 kx450 in a few days, and my dealer basically told me I'd be out the door for 7500. I know Im taking it up the ass but I don't like driving and this dealer is 5 minutes away. The dude told me my price was after a 1000$ off promotion, but I recently checked the kawi website and they have a 1500 promotion listed for my area (Western Washington).

So, is this guy dicking me out of 500$? He claims that the sale will be a wash and that he will make no money on it.

He had to order the bike from another dealer and I'm paying cash, if that makes any difference.

$9k otd (without promo) for a leftover 450 sounds likea great deal to me. Can you ask him for me if they can get any more of them for that price?

Dealer cost on most bikes is 17-20% less than msrp.

So, if msrp is $8699 and 17% of that is $7220, after you take off the $1500 rebate your at $5720. lets say his freight cost was $500 so he is now into the bike for $6220. So, after sales tax at 9%, your at $6780.

So, is that a good deal or are you getting ass raped? Dont forget, he had to send someone to pick up the bike. He had to pay someone to assemble the bike (doesnt matter if you take it apart when you get home, it still came in a crate and the OEM will not let them sell it that way).

Another thing to consider, is that usually, 3-5% of his margin is held by the OEM and paid back to him annually or semi annually. It looks like he will make about $500 after everything is said and done.

Now, you could drive and maybe get a better deal, but it sounds to me that having a dealer 5 min. away is worth something to you. Is that valued at $500? Only you can make that call.

Dealers don't make a dime, well maybe they do here and there, off of a new bike when the right buyer walks in the door. It is all about parts and accessories. Dealers have to get customers in the door, and bike sales are the catalyst.

If you take MSRP minus the $1500, then add in 8% sales tax you're right about $7750. So basically you're $250 below MSRP and no charges for delivery and setup.

Bikes are freakin expensive. ...

Just paid $5500 otd for a 13 kx250f with kawi's promo. The 450 was a grand more. There are some smoking deals out there right now. Our local dealer wasn't even close to that so I drove 75 miles and man was it worth it!

I think you can do better, was just looking last night and found a couple of dealers around $6,500 and then it said you would get a PC exhaust with it. Used searchtempest and saw these, more than one dealer so it wasn't like one guy was trying to clear his floor.

This sounds more like it. In case you didn't catch the sarcasm in my earlier reply, I was being sarcastic.

When a salesmans mouth is moving they are shoveling out a butt load of BS.

Shop around get plenty of quotes and beat them up on the deal.

Shop around and get the best OTD with promotion, even if you have to drive an hour to pick it up.

If you dont want to drive around go in and tell him 7k otd cash. Plus most dealers give you discounts on gear and parts and you said it's 5 mins away.

I think actual margins are closer to 12% for most OEMs. When I was a Yamaha/Suzuki/Arctic Cat dealer we tried to make $250-300.00 on off road motorcycles. Most of the time you didn't.

Let me just suggest that you take care of those that you need to take care of you later on. If you go to a dealer a couple hours away and you need help with something it is not fair to go to the dealer 5 minutes away next time for an emergency.

I was at the track last night and a friend of mine said he was picking up a 13 kx450 for $6500 otd. He lives In Tennessee but I'm not sure what dealer it is. $7500 seems high to me. I checked on one back in the spring and they were going for $7100 otd.

If you had posted that you got a 2013 KXF450 for $3000 OTD, there would be dozens of people coming along after you saying that they got the same bike for $2500 with a second bike to use for spare parts. I think you got a killer deal bro. That bike is awesome and you will love it. Congrats!!!
