Anyone know how to get the air filter off this old yamaha

Should be two wing-nuts on the front side of the airbox. Go look at the RMATVMC parts breakdown for the bike and you will see what I'm talking about.

Yes ,that is correct. The wingnuts have likely been replaced by normal hex nuts ,so it's just not jumping out at you that those need to be removed.

I remember replacing those wing nuts with nylon insert wing nuts from a Maico airfilter setup.

I would agree if he put some effort into it, like a non-blurry photo or 3 showing the setup. Im old but I’m not old enough to have owned one of these.

I raced a number of Yamahas with that style air cleaner. Between motos, made sure to check the wing nuts and tighten reularly.

That’s why I used a nylon insert wing nut off of a Maico. Bought a couple of those and didn’t have to worry.

But be careful not to really crank on it, the cage itself is pretty much unobtanium.
