Checked the page and didn’t see a topic on this so, anyone hear what happened? I know those things are close to impossible to install how could it possibly come out from under the tire?

Sorry got them confused it was lamay. Guess ktms aren’t red lol. Corrected the title.

Surprised no one brought it up but like the announcers said I don’t believe we’ve ever seen this happen before.

Mousse came apart. Seen it happen several times before depending on how old and what condition it was in.

The rumor I heard was that the bead on the tire was broken when they installed the Mousse. Considering how hard they are to put on, and that Ben didn't have a mechanic there. Sounded plausible.

They're not that difficult to install if you know how and certainly not tough enough to break a bead. Top enduro guys can fit them in a couple of minutes

Lamays mousse didn’t come apart, either the lock broke or wasn’t tightened would be my guess

Well maybe wrong size? Its just like a flat. Make a turn with a flat and tire comes right off rim. Go straight you can finish an enduro. Probably just a freak racing incident. A rut may have pulled it off.

He said he was doing his effort solo. So it could have been just an oversight by him. Couldn’t imagine doing a national solo and being competitive like he is.

I’ve seen it happen and it was a broken bead. You don’t need to use a rim lock with a mousse but some people do. Only way the rim lock would have helped is if it was miraculously in the same place as the broken bead. The mousse would push itself out regardless.

This happen quiet often. There is 2 reasons, if the mousse is not on super excess hours:
1. Wrong mousse paired with wrong tire size
2. Bead is broken

Many people use same mousse when moving from 110 to 120 tire without reflecting over if it will still fit.

Put a Michelin 110-90/19 mousse in a Bridgestone 110/90-19 tire and it will happen for example.

I know some factory GNCC teams that run 2 rim locks, and they all use mousse inserts...

You can only skip the rimlock in the front wheel, rear wheel must have one or you're not getting very far.

Ten years Using bibs, and never used a rim lock on either tire. Never had a problem. Everything from enduro to hare and hound racing to 8 days down the Baja peninsula.

Looked like a tube to me the way it was stretched out and wrapped around plus it bounced like it was full of air but what do I know! Looking at the still shot it looks like a bib but watching the way it moved live I thought it was a tube at first.

Yea, try doing a mx dirt start without rim lock. 50/50 chance you wont get any fwd drive.
